Default Sticky Shocks

As there seems to be a general and continuous interest in the rear shock department, would it be worth putting one of the more detailed threads on a sticky?
That way muppets like myself don't get a headache!!

Oh, and P.S. anyone know where to get a cheap 46 PRCL shock from? And what front springs do I need? (and spacers)

Fork springs: Well they all work as well as each other so not much to choose.

My Ohlins was fairly cheap, £200 plus postage. Though to be fair I should include the cost of the rebuild and respring in that, another £100 and something.

If all is nearly the same as what i am doing with my penske, i would say buying an ohlins from a GSXR SRAD (for the curvey bikes) and then changing the spring and revalve the unit should make it the same spec as if it was a original SV model.

Although maybe straying from the point slightly, which I have forgotten (and I started this), am thinking about a 46 PRCL for the rear and a set of Ohlins springs for the forks (SV650s K3). Cheapest I've found so far is £530 delivered. As I'm not a race track fella it maybe a bit over the top, but it seems to be the easiest job - no cutting of battery boxes etc (so I'm told).

Back on topic, I guess this topic maybe better of in the ancilleries section......

Well, it was used, so not exactly useful for you. But they do exist I think the K3 one is an integrated one isn't it? No external reservoir. If I'm right, they're usualyl cheaper than the one for the carbed model, which I think may be a 46HRCL.

Hagon do a cheaper option, if you want a simple direct replacement

Yeah, you can get an intergated one, but you can also do the 46PRCL as well. Not much difference in the price ('bout £60), so will probably go for the 46PRCL.

I have looked at other shock makes, but there is just not enough info on them for me to be happy about trusting them with my life.....

I think I might be turning into a tackle tart anyway

I take it that both mods are easy enough jobs....

Hagon are a solid brand... UK based too. The actual bits aren't as good, it's a simpler design, but the quality's good. Wigan650 had one on his curvy model and seemed very pleased. But I never looked at them as a serious option, for me it was GSXR or Ohlins/Penske.

The hardest part is suspending the bike... You need to take all the weight off the swingarm so you can't use a normal stand. Abba stand or NWS is great for this, makes work like this a piece of cake. Or you can hang it from a solid a-frame or roof beam, things like that.

Setting up's a wee bit of a black art though- if you buy a new one, get it from somwehere that you know is a suspension expert, not just a regular dealer with an Ohlins supplier. Reason is, if you don't do this then there's every chance you end up with the standard setup, which may not suit you. The 2 questions they should ask are how heavy you are, and what do you use it for.
