That time of year again - yippeee! New motogp season usually signals the return of warm weather, and its no differant this time.

Im not even sure if this is the correct place to post this thread, but if its wrong i guess i can be told off and start it somewhere else!

If you want to start a fantasy motogp team, do so for free at:

www.motogpnews.com

register, and make a team. Pick rossi and you wont have money for other riders...

BSB this weekend too at brands. I cant make it (uni commitments) but least its on ITV at 3pm (so they said in an email)

Can someone post when the GP is on? I have been looking online, but can't find a listing and since I'm away this weekend, I want to set the video.

(Terrestrial or Cable)

Slightly off thread but i have been watching the practice and qualifying on eurosport and it looks set to be a really good year with some true competition for Rossi
The only thing i am a little upset and worried about is the use of more and more technology - cue arguements.
I was watching Rossi practice his start technique, he wound the throttle fully open to the revlimiter and dumped the clutch .The result no wheelie, no wheel spin, just a smooth launch controlled by the traction control, engine management etc etc.
My point is although i dont deny the skill or bravery of the riders, this takes some of the spectacle out of the whole afair.
I would hate for Moto GP to end up like F1 and just be a boring procession of bikes circulating at incredible speeds
Hopefully the day will never come and in the meantime sit back and watch the sparks fly
Come on Ellison

Chog...

Your comments regarding the technology making stand still starts a piece of cake due to technology is very wrong I am afraid. Having just returned from Jerez we were lucky enough to occupy the stand where right in front of us the riders practised their starts.
There was no just "dumping" the clutch by anyone I can assure you as my own eyes and ears witnessed the events. Some riders had the big leaping up and down at the front end before even moving off such is the critical control of the start with so much power on tap. Most riders have to use quite a lot of clutch slip to really get things moving.

What was very impressive was the distance those bikes go in first gear alone!

Hi, i am not arguing with you, just saying what it looked like on eurosport.
They had a camera on Rossi's bars and you could see he just wound the throttle back to the stop and let the clutch out in one move What surprised me was that the bike didn't wheelie.
If what you say is right about clutch slip, then that could be built in by the traction control sytem that most of the bikes run.
As i say i dont doubt the skill of the riders but hope technology doesn't take over what is the best racing on the telly.

I'm wondering when starting the race if they take off in 2nd gear, or are they just geared that way for that track?
Cheers!

I watched those practice starts. Deffinitely dumped the clutch with the throttle wound open on a rev limiter. Non of the usual bringing the power in gradually by slipping the clutch. One of the comentators joked by saying you wouldnt want to be the first person to try that out!
There must be a button they push to put it in launch mode or the bike goes into that mode when stationary. It looked and sounded great to me.

They where also talking about how the bikes have GPS. The onboard computer knows exactly where it is on the track, so the bike could have different settings for each part of the circuit.

More technology is great in my opinion. The racing doesnt seem to be being harmed by it.

Glad you saw the footage as well i thought i was going mad
I enjoyed the race as well but if you compared it to the BSB race that was on itv afterwards. The BSB had more overtaking and dicing on a shorter, tighter track and in my humble opinion was just as entertaining as the big boys.

My point is technology is fine as long as it doesn't sanitise the racing and turn it into F1 boredom.
