Default protecting rear shock on k5

On the list of things I want to put on my bike was a rear hugger , however it does seem well protected on my sv650s k5 , the tool box etc protects the rear shock well .

Does the hugger keep shock a lot cleaner as to be honest the rear shock only gets slightly dirty each week and just give it a wipe down with some wd40 each week to keep it clean.

Just wondering ?

The front fender extender makes a hugh difference keeping crap off !

Cheers Steve

Default Rear Shock

Hi Steve,

I've got a rear hugger on my K5 SV, the rear shock hardly gets any road grime etc, I just give it a wipe with a cloth about once a month. The hugger keeps cleaning maintence to a minmum.

Im not planning on fitting a hugger to my new bike next week as, as you say it seems well protected.

I will keep an eye on it

i hung a butil rubber flap from the underneath of my bike hanging down between the original crap stopper and the wheel, its about 3 inches wide and does the job of keeping the shock clean. by the way mines a k3. i dont like huggers as they cover too much of the back wheel and i like to see it.

sounds like a good idea

where can I get a "butil rubber flap" ? & how do I attach it ?

My fazer 600 original style has a rubber flap on it & no hugger and protected the shock well for 50 k miles

Cheers Steve

mine was an excess piece of pond liner, its difficult to explain how i attached it in text but very easy if i show'd you, above your original crap stopper theres a rubber liner to line some part of the underneath of your seat it could be your battery box, this rubber is held on by clipping it to a rail under there, i unclipped it and put the butil rubber between the rail and the clip then clipped it back on, the flap then just hangs between the crap stopper and your tyre. hope this helps.
