Default Pillion

Bit of advice please.

A mate wants to buy a bike and wants me to take him pillian on my bike to go and pick it up. It's in Brighton (I'm SE London). I have been riding for about a year and have riden my brother pillian around the block but thats it.

I'm 20 stone and my mate is about 18 stone....Is 38 stone on a SV650 to much? Especially to a rider who is pretty inexperienced with taking a pillian (although I feel I will be ok).

Any tips? (suspension, tyres, chain etc..) I also have a hugger...Will this be ok with a pillian. It wont clip the back wheel will it?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Wheelie

Increase the pressure in the rear tyre - check the manual for what they suggest

The front will become very light, especially at slow speeds, which will cause problems around town, eg when turning at T-Junctions

I'd ride very slowly if I were you

first off, I think that will be too much for the SV... in owners manual, it says the maximum weight for you not to exceed... think thats about 400Kg, so take bike with fuel etc as roughly 200Kg... that leaves 100 Kg per rider/passenger... which I think is about 16 stone per person...

As for generaly taking pillions, adjust preload... make sure tyres are inflated to at least correct pressure...
I found when carrying lots of luggage on back of my SV that 40psi on rear tyre made things a lot easier to handle...

Default 50 mile wheelie

I think that distance with you both will be tricky, especially at low speeds.

Two up motorway/A Road riding is OK but even with adjusting the pressures
& Suspension it's still risky. I only just feel comfortable with me & my wife at
13 stone/9 stone ......(my wife is the 9 stone one!).

Good luck if you do though!

add a little air into your rear tyre and do it, or at least meet him there. then look forward to the ride home !

You're going to have to lean well over the front end when you're accelerating!!! I find my bike easy to wheelie even with r lass on the back.
