Default Rear tyre "refitted"???

Hi All

Bit of a long one this... I am having the bike serviced, and the guy took it upon himself to fit a new rear tyre - I found out this morning via e-mail.

Problem is I had already arranged a tyre through someone else. Not part of the service I asked for (all specified in an e-mail), so over the phone he makes a bit of a song and dance and says he will refit the original.

I started thinking about this, and looked at the email from this morning - and it seems to suggest he was about to fit the tyre. On the phone he said he tried to call last night, left a message etc, but I haven't had any messages. Also, the tyre he got in was not a direct replacement for mine, so I think he should have asked me before going ahead anyway.

Bit of miscommunication, fair play, but I don't want to be strung along here. Is it possible to refit a wheel once it has come off? Is it damaged in anyway when removed? Also, is there an easy way to tell if the wheel/tyre has been off?

My suspicion is that he ordered a tyre in over night but I am thinking that he did not fit it - just had a bit of a moan when I phoned and told him I already had one lined up.

Hoping it will come to nothing, but you know how these things get out of proportion sometimes. Would be useful to know if the rear tyre has actually come off, and we can discuss from there.

I must have a suspicious mind, but I just can't seem to trust dealers

Cheers

If done properly, there's no reason why the tyre would be unusable, other than if it was already damaged.

A tyre should not be fitted without your consent as part of a routine service - the dealer should have contacted you first. So if they've put it on, it's up to them to take it off and refit your original, unless you're happy with one, the brand of tyre they're providing, and two the price they're charging is competitive.

Don't let them bully you into acceptance.

This was the only chink in Premiers armour. they put a fornt tyre on mine once. It did need need it, a lot, but it was going to have one the following weekend. They charged me a small fortune, like £105 or something. After a lengthy discussion, i got it dropped to £69 which is what i was going to pay, and got a new tank protector for the mis understanding!!

Well, I expect the tyre will be the original, but just wondered if it ever left the wheel in the first place

I agree that a tyre should not be fitted as part of a service without prior consent - failing to leave a message and going ahead doesn't really count in my book.

Hope the rest of the service is A-OK, have a long summer of riding planned

Cheers

If they refit the original & balance it up at no expense to yourself then dont worry too much, the main thing is that there should be no loss to you. When the service is done & paid for ask them if they got any cheap secondhand not used tyres going cheap .
