Default Need advice- picked up my bike 2day

Picked up my SV today. its been in for a for a service and having the restrictor kit fitted since i picked it up 10 days ago. Boy, was i frighten. That baby is going to take some taming. I had to ride the 2 miles from the garage to my office with my heart in my mouth. The thing is i haven't been on a bike since i passed my test (restricted A) 22 months ago. Will i be taking a big risk without going for a refresher? I have left it at the office till the weekend when i hope to do some proper riding. I have less than 8 weeks to get use to the bike before the restrictor comes off.

Also, i did my insurance through Bennents. They say they don't want a copy of the restrictor certificate. Is this the norm?

Thanks All

Sorry, you find it frightening with the restrictor?!?

I used to ride on slow bikes like 125's then had 5 years off before getting on a 600 and I sh*t myself going down my cul de sac but after a few miles was fine. Just go out early on a Sunday when there is no traffic and do 20 miles or so to get used to it and you will be fine. No need for refreshers. Within a week you will be bored and wanting more power.

If you feel that way then I'd definitely have a refresher course. Recognising that you're not completely happy is a good sign - nothing worse than feeling too overconfident, and then having a prang. Check out the local bike training centres in your area, explain the situation and I guess a days 1to1 training will get your confidence back and refresh all those things you may have forgotten (like U-turns )

take it easy

Hmm I could take the pi** but I remember that first time I went down the road on my Bandit and by the time I reached the bottom I had decided to sell it cos I felt I couldn't handle it! A fortnight later I was selling it - because I was bored and wanted more speed!

As I said get out on quiet roads and you will be fine.

As the others say, get out early on a Sunday morning and go for a good run.
Take it as easy as you feel comfortable with.

The other thing, I do not believe you must take the restrictor off just because your 2 years is up. Leave it on until you feel comfortable with removing it.

I too have the restrictor fitted, the SV was my 1st. bike and I have just took the covers off for the good weather and I am still taking it steady.
I am looking to remove the restrictor when it goes in for its 4000 mile service around June probably.
Then it will be another learning curve for me but I want to feel confident as it currently is before contemplating removing the restrictor..

I have the restrictor kit fitted too. The bike still takes off bottom end, but it's dead compared to the bike at full power. But that's not to say the bike aint quick, 'cause it is. Keep riding, and by the end of your first month you'll be busting to get the kit off. I know I was!

Take it easy, and enjoy!
