Default what would you do about road tax?

hey guys

well a bit stuck at what to do at the moment, im due to pick up me falco tommorrow, phoned and sorted the insurance with exprexx on tuesday its due to change over at 10am saturday, in there wisdom they have decided not to send out a cover note!!! have spoken to them and they are sending it out today recorded delivery to hopefully be with me tommorrow!!

question is...if it doesnt arrive do i pick the new bike up and ride it home (un taxed) and get tax on monday when the note should definetley be here or do i pospone picking the bike up until the cover note arrives and can tax immediatly?

what would you do?

thanks dave

I would ride it. But then, I've been fined for that privilege.

recorded delivery is pretty spot on tbh.

Wont the tax be backdated to start beginning of April anyway?? Thought it only ran til end of months so began at beginning of months.

Technically, you are taxed because when you get it, its backdated so covers you riding it home. Although at the time youre not. One madness of the system.

I think any police officer stopping you would give you a producer to produce all documents within 7 days tbh. And any fine would be covered by the disk when you received it.

But if the tax takes into account the time you rode then its ok isnt it?
I'd do it tbh, i mean when was the last time you saw a police roadblock round your way stopping cars or bikes to check for tax.
Just dont park it outside of your local cop shop

Dont let silly little things that are out of your control stop you being on your bike. I know i dont.
And having tax on your bike is not gonna make you any better a rider so its just a thing you toatlitarian govt want from you that gives you naff all back.

can you do it online once you have the cover note? that way you could tax it before you pick up?

failing that, i'd chance it - would be very unucky to get nicked.

however, does having no tax invalidate your insurance if the worst happens to your new P&J before you get a chance to tax it?

I'd ride it. An awful lot of people ride without tax discs (without the discs being displayed on the bike I mean; not that they've not paid it) all the time with no problems.

If you do get asked to produce you should have plenty of time before the 7 days when you will actually have the disc.

I rode for a week with no tax disc displayed when i picked up my bike, the dealer just put a piece of paper in the holder with their business stamp on. As soon as it arrived in the post i went to the dealers to collect it.
