Default End Can for K5 (Akrapovic?)

Chaps,

Sorry to bore you all with this.... but i am wanting to upgrade the end can on my K5..... after lots of reading on here Scorpion seems a good choice, but fitted will cost me about £300... which isn't too bad, but, and here's my main question...

...can i buy any end can i want and get the right link pipe to join them up? and then make sure the bracket that goes around and attaches to the bike fits ok? is that it?

really i would like an Akrapovic end can you see but they dont officially do one.... but can i get one anyway and make it fit easily?

thanks to all the experts in advance! you may have guessed but my K5 is my first proper bike!

huge thanks.

Hmm, wrong section mods?

Anyway, yes I would imagine you could make an akrapovic can fit the sv, however, the main problem you will encounter with akra cans is that they aren't held onto the link pipe via the standard fastening clamp (jubilee clip). They are held on by springs.

Whether or not you can manage to jam a clamp on there or not, I don't know. Worth a try I guess though (although you could always buy a £40 carbon can off ebay and slap a £2 akrapovic sticker on it - it'll give as good results)

Standard fitment is an inlet of ~51-53mm, you'll find a lot of bikes are actually like that, it seems to be a standard fit. £23 for the new link pipe and go buy a second hand (or new *sigh*) can of your choice off ebay!!!! Thats the way to do it. Thats how I done it with my 99' curvey. £35 carbon can. £25 link pipe. Result, one incredibly loud bike and the exhaust looks nice and new!!

Seriously though, if the link pipe's are the same for curvey and pointy, you can have my carbon (its an art but debadged, as new) exhaust and link pipe for the £60 I spent on them. If you want a sound file, just ask.

Sorry, didn't mean to turn it into a sales pitch, I just like to try and save people money.

thanks so much for the response matey....

all i want is my pointy to sound louder so i have more presence on the road. i am really not fussed about the performance...

a carbon can sounds good matey... but what about actually attaching it to the bike with the huge bracket that goes around it?

if you can send me a picture and a sound file that would be grand. i have a feel though that curvy and pointy exhaust systems are different in some way.... but thats over my head!

will it be easy to fit?

all help appreciated! thanks.

Well, this ART can certainly sounds...incredibly loud, unfortunately it is marked with not for road use on the exhaust strap and doesn't have a removeable baffle mor mot pruposes but I am sure you can rectify both those issues with some polish and aftermarket baffle.

Its currently pouring down up here and if I took a video/sound clip for you, you'd be hearing it in the garage and you don't really get an idea of the sound in there....it's just far too loud with the sound bouncing off the walls.

I am led to beleive the link pipes for both curvey and pointy are the same, I ordered a new ccc exhaust 3 days ago and the advert said "fits all models of sv". Getting the new link pipe on does require a bit of effort. I managed to use a metal cutting tool and cut it off whilst it was still on the bike, took maybe about 10 minutes to get the thing off. Took another 10 minutes to clean up the cut area and slip the link pipe on. From there, it's just clamp link pipe down, put on exhaust and strap, place strap around exhaust and secure to pillion peg mount and secure exhuast with a clamp to the link pipe. Easy really.

So if you have a metal cutting tool then yes it is easy, otherwise it's a hacksaw job and I couldn't see a way to do that with the exhaust still on the bike (taking it off is very fiddly indeed for a first timer). If you do want a different exhaust on though, you'll need to chop the old one off...via the way I've talked about. You could buy a whole new race system but they are major league £££ and not really worth it.

Pictures and sound clip to come hopefully tomorrow for you.

the link pipe for the curvy is different to the pointy and the k4 / 5 are different to the k3's also most exhaust company's use slightly different diametre pipework to stop you swapping and changing.
if i were you just get a Remus excellent quality, great sound with or without baffle no big band around the can to hold it on and not much more than the scorpion.
heres a pic of a high level titanium remus revolution

Hi M.C

I find it a little worrying that carbon can company would sell their exhausts for all models with the same products though, don't you think?

I'm not challenging what you're saying, but it's a little odd???

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Thats what I bought and fitted to my curvey yesterday.

Also I bought this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Which would suggest the link pipes are all the same or if there are any differences, they are so small that they don't warrant changing the design.

Anyone want to contribute to this?

Either way my art can and generic link pipe work together

I was going to buy a Remus can until I found a much cheaper alternative. FUEL exhasust are hand made in the UK and cost £120 new including link pipe and next day postage. Fitting was no prob and with the baffle out sounds just pure awesome!!!

Ooh this almsot sounds like an advert. But I was so impressed that I had to tell you.

thanks for the help chaps...

my next query is that i am thinking a carbon can company can will suffice nicely as will save some cash... how can i be sure that it will fit using the standard rear foot peg bracket and not need a big ugly bracket right round the can...?

thanks again all..
yans.

Hi mate! I've got the Akropovic full system on my K5 pointy, not only does it sound excellent,it's 'E' marked, and the build quality is 2nd to none. Also if your interested in keeping your zorst looking shiny, the pipe-work doesn't deteriorate like the standard system,I'll try and post a picture for you. Easy to fit too!!
