Default wheelies again.

i know is sad and childish and dangerous BUT i did it anyway! ive been learning and did 4 the other night, ive been doing it by rolling along and using about 5k revs and slipping the clutch the front goes up but not extremely successfully, any tips of how to get it up and keep it up? < get ready for the jokes

I've been trying this as well. You clutching it in 1st or 2nd gear?

1st you can just use the power, but i hit the limiter v quickly everytime!!

In second it just seems to be a case of clutching up at about 30mph, just add a few more revs each time pretty soon it starts to come up quite nicely.

You are probably over complicating things with using the clutch!! Just whack the throttle open and when the front goes a bit light in 1st, give the bars a nice little ‘tug’ to help encourage things and you are away!!

No, no, no! It's BIG and it's CLEVER!

First gear wheelies on the SV are a lot harder to control than second gear wheelies, so you might want to try hoisting it up in second by pulling in then almost dumping the clutch (whilst keeping the throttle open) at about 25mph. Takes a bit of practise but second gear wheelies are smoother and last longer.

If you're determined to do it in first gear, then the best technique is to take it to 5/6k revs and then literally snap the throttle fully open as quickly as you possibly can which should see the front wheel rise nicely. Because of the S's gearing you may find that pushing yourself further back on the seat towards the back of the bike will make a big difference.

Warning: if you want to wheelie just be prepared to crash .

Thats how I got my SVS to wheelie. The front does come up fast that way though. I never managed a 2nd gear wheelie.

Now the GSXR is a whole different cup of tea

Were the four you did consistent?

If so keeping doing what your doing but use a little bit more power to get a higher initial front wheel lift (if clutching).

Once your comfortable getting the front up consistently and riding until the revlimiter spoils your fun you need to work on few more things...

1. Cover your rear brake

Should be done in the first instance but it can sometimes feel quite daunting having so much to remember when you want to pop it up.

2. Keep you left foot UNDER the gear change lever with pressure. When you feel like your nearly at the rev limiter or the engine is just screaming, quickly rev a fraction more, then release and rev again. During this the pressure on the gear lever would have put it into second gear which is much more controllable.

Ideally you want to pop the bike up in 1st, get stable and then attempt second gear. Be warned though, this is a hurdle when it comes to doing wheelies. If you miss second you hit neutral, bottom of the forks maybe and definitely your crown...

Not good!!

But once your over this hurdle you can really work on distance and height. Your high when you can barely see the road ahead, but higher when you need to poke your head left/right around the bike!!

P.s. - Keep us posted on how you get on!! (and hopefully not off!)

When your ready, I'll tell you about standups and footless variations!!

I pay somebody else to ride my bike wearing my leathers and lid A bit like the Stig but only not as cool.

It wheelies in 1st and 2nd without really trying hard at all. I'm convinced if I wasnt such a wuss it would probably wheelie in 3rd as well, its actually a challenge to get a good launch and keep the front end down
