Default oil light problem

this has probably been asked loads here but i cant find it in a search

riding my sv this morning the oil light flickers at low rpm and some times stays on for a long time. i have checked the oil but is on the max line. also the gears are getting a little stiff. would this be any thing but a faulty sensor?

Check sensor first, substitution is by far the easiest way. How old is the oil filter?
When you say gears getting stiff, do you mean that it's hard to change or that the lever is stiff?

You most likely know this but there is no gearbox oil specifically - the engine and gearbox share the same oil. If there's a lack of oil pressure the first area to suffer will most likely be big ends, lots of load and a plain bearing.
I'd be very surprised to find the gearchange to be the area that you would have troubles with first if there was an oil system problem.
Clearly your bike does need to be examined carefully though.
