Default Bit of Word help needed please

I often fill in standard Land Registry forms - they have a shedload of em on their website. One in particular, form TR1, has some check boxes but I can't work out how to get a X in them.

http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/asset...uments/tr1.doc

Every time I click on the check boxes I get a page with Microsoft Visual Basic coding. Aaaargh. Does anyone know how to get a X in the box? I have to write an X in manually and it would look so much more professional if the PC did it.

Ok, I have double clicked on one of the boxes to get the VB window up.

On the VB window there should be a properties window with two tabs, alphabetic and categorised. If not, view menu, properties window of press F4 to call it up.
Select categorised tab when its on the screen.

On appearance section theres a field called value [under SpecialEffect on my screen] where the Value is set to False, overtype it with True and press enter.

Go to top of VB window and click on the Word icon. should return you to the document with the box ticked.

That will change one box. To change others switch back to the VB window, above the tabs of alaphabetic and categorised you have a checkbox window in my case with "checkbox4" in it. There is also a drop down to choose the others. Sorry no idea which are which though guess thats going to be trial and error.

Why the hell didnt they just use form fields where a double click is sufficient?
