Does anyone have a link for the MOT requirements? Had a look on tinternet earlier and only thing i could find on the Direct Gov site was a sort of summary of which the exhaust section was quite funny as it said (quote taken direct from site)
Exhaust system - complete, secure, correct type and not too noisy |

It's really out of date, though. MOT regs change often, Mr Haynes does not.
I don't know if this is official or still totally accurate, but it's what I use. http://www.ukmot.com/bike/1-1.asp It does seem to be missing bits.

I think there will come a time when exhaust noise is measured ,as at present it is subjective (No louder than an equivilent motorcycle or similar). If your tame examiner takes the view that a loud exhaust is a safety feature then so long as it ain't marked "Not for road use" or similar then there is no problem.
As far as secure is concerned a mates R1 passed with the can cabled tied. No rear reflector even though the examiner tried to sell him one and conceeded that there would be nowhere to mount the thing. I miss the days when I could order my MOTs over the phone and pick them up that night in the pub. Not dodgy as such, the examiners knew that if I said it would pass it would, so what was the point of us all wasting time.

i've just got my bike's first mot, and on the back it says "An MOT Test pass confirm that, when the vehicle was examined in accordance with Section 45 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, it met the minimum legal requirements for those items prescribed under the Act."
So i guess by that, if you just go look up the relevant docs, you'll get your answers... |
