Default After Market Can on a restricted 99 SV650S

I am planning on putting a scorpian end can on my 33bhp restricted SV650S just a slip- on can will it effect my insurance because it wont improve the performance of the engine will it? I just fancy a nice deep throaty exhaust and i dislike the chunky stainless steel exhaust that comes with it lol!

You strictly speaking need to tell your insurance company who will then either say sorry we cant insure you with that modification or will want to charge you £100 extra.

I told them and fortunately it cost as much as changing the details on the paperwork.

I'm gonna guess alot of people dont even bother, but I didnt fancy coming off which is inevitable at some point and then my insurance trying to stitch me up.

I'm eager on this aswell.
There will be an addition to the BHP so i'm guessing it would invalidate the restriction. So technically then insurance is the smallest of your worries as in the eyes of the law you are riding a machine you are not licenced to ride.
Thats my take on it anyway.

yes, you go from a restricted can to a straightthrough free flowing can, your going to get a performance increase, minimal 0.5 - 1.5bhp but a performance increase all the same.

I declared all my modifications to my insurance company. They asked if the can increased performance as it was a slip on I told them no it didnt and they didnt charge me any extra.

You will get a small increase I think, but IMHO not that much that I'd be worried about it.

Best thing to do is to ring your insurance company and ask them about it before you do it. As to the legality of your restriction with a different can on the bike I'm not sure, But as long as the restrictors are in place and you have a document that proves so. I dont honestly think It would be a problem.

Not all 'slip on' cans are free flowing. The majority have baffles already installed (albeit removable) - and also, the restriction in the 33bhp is in the ECU, not the exhaust. So I can't see there being any performance increase anymore than nipping to the toilet or removing the toolkit from the bike.

IMHO full system is a waste of money if your just wanting something that makes a better noise a slip on can makes much more sense.

The scorpian has a baffle in it. Its actually a 650s bandit can that was on my dads befor he got his VFR800 and were jus going to cut the original can off and then get a slieve over the orignal pipe work and put the scorpian on it so as long as i keep the baffle in it then there wont be an increase in bhp?!
