Cage break-in .... Deja-Vu again!

Whilst myself and Quedos popped in for a quick pub meal before hospital visiting, some lovely scrote(s) decided to help themselves to the contents of my car. Broad daylight on a busy city centre street with a stoplock and alarm. They must have thought that my plastic windscreen mount for the pocket PC was an exotic piece of SatNav kit and decided to chance it. It's all much publicised at the moment.

We parked at 18.01 outside 116 West Regent Street, Glasgow and upon our return, found the passenger window smashed and the usual- rear seats folded down. Several items of value were left behind by them and were all plainly obvious. No radio equipment was removed- it's obviously not worth enough these days. It would seem that they were after a TomTom "go" unit or similar, which some people may leave in the glovebox, in the boot or under the seat etc. Not something I do. They took my denim jacket and wonderful Aldi Tank Bag (which was in the boot). Thankfully, all my house and work keys seem to have fallen out of the pocket due to their weight - they must weigh more than our "Northwind" . Of course there was no sign of any CCTV on this particular street corner, which is actually rather busy. I think someone MUST have disturbed them.

It's all too familiar to me- I had similar done about five years ago in Coatbridge with my previous car. This time it was for the (decent) car hi-fi equipment as well as some two-way radio gear. They managed to ruin the door skin by wrecking the lock as well as gouging up the dashboard in good style. That occassion was bad enough to write-off the car due to the losses and the damage. Luckily enough, this time, it'll be cheaper to fix myself and pay for the small bits thet went rather than pay the excess. Oh yes- and the Police? Too busy after the football. And these were "friendlies"?

Wee *******s... When we got done over in Glasgow a while back, they just used a pry bar and put the window in- in the progress they bent the door frame to the point it needed a new one. And what did they get away with? 2 cans of coke, about a pound in loose change, and my mate's rucksack with a term's actuarial science notes from uni. Well worth it there lads.

I got back to my car last night in Glasgow to find that I'd left my window open and door unlocked. Count myself lucky that everything was there.

At least it was in a quiet street and the open side was up against the trees of a park.

I've had loads of break ins on previous cars but I've been lucky with this one. There are advantages to having an old ****ter. It was even unlocked for about a year due to ****ed central locking. Sorted now though.

Sorry to hear that guys, I'd be all in favour of car alarms that electrify the car body!! I think that criminals should loose all rights when they are in the middle of committing a crime and basically deserve anything that comes their way. Would certainly cut crime statistics!

One of the guys from work had an attempt made on his 1150GS last week. Cut bungees and a cable lock holding the cover on. Rammed a screwdriver in the ignition trying to get the steering lock off and just ended up jamming it up completely so now it can't be ridden. Lock and chain thru the back wheel was untouched. Obviously kids not a professional job so good job they didn't take it off the stand as they'd probably have dropped it, it a heavy ******* of a bike!

I like the idea of security mines. I saw these in an article ina a magazine and they're basicaly a blank shotgun cartridge, which when set of makes an earspliting and very frightening noise. I can't imagine anyone hanging around a car with these things going off inside it. Not sure of the fire risk they represent. I would also gues they need to be installed safely so that when the go off the offending mite doesn't come to any real harm. Nonetheless i think they sound like a fab idea.

no doubt about it Gary they will have been lookin for the sat nav unit.

sorry to hear that mate....i fancied buying an old banger for £30 out the scrappie and fitting it with one of those specimen sat-navs you see in the shops then fitting some C4 explosives to the sat-nav unit...you know what i mean...just your usual sunday afternoon bit of fun
