Default Little Barstewards

Why can't people keep their hands off what doesn't belong to them?

Came to my bike this morning after a few days away, all seemed in order and I was looking forward to buzzing down the road to work.

Some little cnut has been fiddling with my ignition lock. It looks like a bit of light screwdriver action, and a nice blob of superglue to seal off the lock.

Any ideas and advice would be appreciated, I need to get this sorted asap before they come back with their van.

Will solvents really disolve the superglue enough to get the key in to release the steering lock? How easy is it to get the lock and barrel off?

Advice appreciated.

I think the barrel and igniton lock is bolted to the underside of the top yoke with 2 security torx bolts. It is a bit fiddly to get to and they are threadlocked. I changed my top yoke recently, and am almost certain that the barrel came away when I removed these bolts.

I take it you have called the police?

If not, do it now and get a crime number and maybe, just maybe the cops will be able to keep an eye on it.

If this is the same scrotes that are staling from bays in London then this might just be useful.

Instead of posting here, call a locksmith - they will be able to give you better advice.

Good idea - have called the police, and left them the details. I doubt they'll actually do anything, but they've recorded the criminal damage, and my concerns that this is preparation for a theft.

I'll get my spare lock this evening and chain it to the ground anchor. Will also see about some superglue remover, just to get the steering lock off.

Any other ideas? Experiences?

What did the Locksmith say?

Even if he has to come out (he may have "special solvent" it will still be cheaper/easier than a new ignition lock

Step one: Get a **** off huge chain and lock it to something.

Step two: Melt superglue using hot water (makes it go soft - hence why superglue isn't dishwasher safe! )

Hmm if Superglue is not heat stable - get the bike safe.

Take the ignition off, free the barrel,

Put barrel in boiling water and see if superglue dissolves - use some solvent as well.

Or just but a new ignition lock

Thats terrible mate, I hate people like that. My only observation is that possibly if they superglued it with a view to stealing it later, there must be a way of getting the glue off quite easily. Or were they just intending to replace the whole lock at their own leisure? To have a quick fiddle with a screwdriver is opertunistic, but to carry round superglue they must have some kind of plan.
