Default Yamaha xjr 1300

My mate recently purchased one of these and let me have a ride.
Nice bike, but just reminded me why i don't have an IL4.
They are just so uninvolving. Think I will leave the IL4 to the car!
The bike was pretty quick, but was nowhere near as much fun to throw around as the SV, even though it was the SP version with the ohlins suspension.

Yamaha own Ohlins!

I like muscle bikes. I prefer the ZRX1200 in its balance of power and weight. The GSX14 is stonking in a straightline

Yeah, but the Ohlins you get on the FJRs is Yamaha built- just like the Brembo m/c on the new R1.

FJR's not a typical IL4 though- and as for fun to throw around, that's really not what it's for- you might as well say the SV's no good because you can't go trialing on it

I agree, but the bike still has some sporting pretensions (in a macho sort of way!)
My main point was the lack of character of the engine, even though it had some grunt.

Great looking bikes, though, smooth engine, etc, but not the sort of bike that you should compare with a SV.

I'm with Viney; I wouldn't spend my own money on one as the Kwak ZRX1200R and the Honda CB1300 are more moderen bikes with better chassis.

I'd love a go on a GSX1400 though, just for the grunt. I follow one into work sometimes and the just seems to roll on/roll off throttle without changing gear and it's a bugger to keep up with even so

I have recently traded my sv in for a roberts rep xjr with race cans on.Love the power, either laze about in top all day or stretch your arms! I thought the engine in sv was flat for a v twin and the vibes were giving me pins and needles.(I have had aTLR and a firestorm in past and loved em). I got xjr for comfort reasons as sv was giving my wrist and knees some pain,I can ride this all day and not get off walking like John Wayne (too much MX as akid me thinks!) Don't get me wrong,sv is a great bike but don't dismiss the other stuff out there that is bloody good.Horses for courses as they say.....

Whitty, A great looking bike and I agree with Jabba that you only really need 5th gear to blitz most cars, but obviously, IL4s are not my cup of tea!
Strangely enough my same mate used to have a Firestorm, which the SV had no trouble keeping up with. The Firestorm is an under rated bike though if, a bit steep on the insurance.
