Default A question for those with "stage 2" cams...

....did you have to change the jetting/carboration at all?

Just want to check before i arrange a dyno run

If you've got your jetting right now, then you shouldn't need to alter it after the swap. All it does is allow more of the same mix in. Mine was fine.

I had no problems with carburation (factory pro stage 2 kit) after doing my stage 2 cam swap. Incidentally, I love this mod and the way it improves the upper rev range. Only one very small downside, when I did a track day at Oulton Park I hit the rev limiter quite a lot Not very often this happens on the road though.

There's a bit of luck involved with the cam swap as to where they are timed up from the factory, my bikes had various cams in it now and when using the 'marks' one set peaked at just under 9800 and the other set went to around 10000rpm, its better to get them dialed correctly by re-positioning the wheels on the cams.
The jetting wont be effected by the swap, as stated provided its good to start with

Question for you Rob... How much would you expect to pay to get them properly set up? I've always presumed that the improvement wouldn't justify the price, but I just had a moment of clarity and realised I've never actually priced it up

Depends on the job really, dialling in a DOHC engine is time consuming, add in to that the extra calculation for the V-twin part and the pressed on wheels on the cams and whether you fit vernier's, Then if the engines in the bike its the setup of the dial guage etc all takes time.
I have not done it start to finish on an SV with the engine in the frame so would not like to even guess, Alot of it depends on the experience of the mechanic in where to start with settings.

JHS have done enough to have the data to press the wheels right first time, wheras your local tuner/builder that does allsorts of bikes may take a full day to do the same.

Cost wise its only really viable when every last hp is req or its part of a bigger tune ie race cams/vernier's with no std markings.

TBH my bike in its current spec seemed to have better topend with K3 cams in/ex as it held power for slightly longer, but lost a small amount of midrange
