Default Stickies - Do we need 'em ?

Ok, this is a minor thing so I'm probably being anal here, but I for one keep missing things because I don't notice the stickies regularly, and I would guess that many casual observers of the forum might not either.

I always thought the point of stickies was to forcibly keep a post in a prominent place for a longish period of time.
Therefore, it shouldn't be necessary for weekly-meeting/rideout threads as these are always the most active threads and will bubble to the top of the list anyway. At the moment the stickies are busier than the rest of the forum.

It's just a thought, like I said, this is very minor.
In fact I'm not entirely sure why I bothered to make a point of it

Just what i was thinking
And said so somewhere else

The Announcement & Best roads should be stickies, nothing else IMHO
e.g. You can't properly bump the Popham thread if it's stickied IMHO

It's not important enough to be stickied

To be constructive, I find stickys helpful cos I don't have to look a few threads down the page at post titles, I just have to look at the top stickys. If a thread is important it should be stickied.

OK, how many times a day do you check the GM Announcement to see if it has been updated?

In my case very rarely

Stickies should be background information (for newbies mostly). Not developing threads. As Mark said, their activity keeps them at the top of the page. IMHO

The top screen, nevermind the whole of the first page, will give you the past 3 weeks activity FFS.

Stickied

The general thing on the org seems to sticky events such as a rideout or meeting but which ever way suits you is fine. I tend to read the topics that are marked unread rather than where they are in the section.

Oh and the idea of an announcement is just that a statement which doesnt really change.

It's for those of us that are too lazy to look down the page for the relevant thread.
A thread about a ride out can be easily droped down the page as it's not a particularly busy section and then it could be missed by people

here's a tip...

Always check the stickies
