Default nearly had my first off this morning!!!!!

Well as the title suggests, had a brown trouser moment this morning!!
on the way to work, literally no more that 100m from my house. and i was going round a longish left hander, not to sharp but had a bit of a lean on, then as i came round the corner i saw that traffic had stoped, placed on the back break and started to pick the bike up, just as i started to squeeze the front break on the back wheel locked! bike turned sideways (not all the way round but still) panic set in, never been in a situation like that before, but i think i stayed calm eased off the breaks, bike gained grip back end shot back round again thort for a second that it was gonna throw me off but i was all good, then i realised that the back end of the stationary lorry was becoming quite close and there was no way that i could have stoped before i hit it! only thing i thort of being able to do was shoot round the side of it as if filtering, luckily there was only another bike coming, who seemed to jump out of his skin when he saw me, (not surprised really) if there had been a lorry or something coming i would have been straight under its wheels,
scared the s**t out of me, got to work and i was shaking like a leaf! prob going a little to fast, not for the road itself but the fact that it was a crisp morning and the roads were a little slippery, and my tires were stone cold still,
time to slow down a little i think!!

You are OK and no one else was involved, so that's good. Bonus is that no machinery was mangled either.

Learn from the near miss and apply what you have learned....... easier to say than do, but at least you may avoid being in a similar situation in future.

Now go change your pants!

Good to hear that you didn't come to any harm.

Locking up the rear wheel accidently is the cause of a high proportion of motorcycle accidents. Not only do you lose the ability to steer where you want to (too busy just trying to stay upright), but if you stall the engine in the process then you have no gyroscopic effect from either the engine or the back wheel!

yeah definatly a learning curve, but as was said no one or nothing came to harm so just take it wasy and everything should stay being ok, was supprised that it stayed controled tho, as you say sdusk locking the wheel causes many accidents, and i really did think that i was gona be another statistic to that fact, but it was all good!!! still feel that i want to find that biker tho, he mast have thorght i was a complete nutta when i shot out from behind that lorry, just want to explain that i am not a complete d**k head!

Jimmy, glad to hear that you came from it ok. I've had some trouser changing moments recently too I now know to treat rain with a little more respect, even when it's stopped raining, and my tyres are warm.

About the other biker I'm sure he thought "****!! W*NKER!! WTF!!" but that will probably of only been AFTER he passed you. He probably had a good rant about you to his mates, and doesn't even know what bike you have or what gear you were wearing. Yea it would be nice to let him know what happened, but I'm sure he'll think no more of it, and might actually decide to adopt his riding to avoid another near miss around a blind lorry.

Phew, glad you are ok! Its probably a good thing to happen, you will be an even better rider now, all just part of the learning experience, and the best lessons are the ones that don't hurt!

Yep sounds like you did well not to throw it down the road but also were lucky not to have been squashed. As others have said, learn from it and apply to your riding and it shouldn't happen again. Glad you're in one peice.

Far better to learn from a painless and free lesson than wising up after the alternative mate. I had a "watcjh it" slap myself this week.
