Default Clothing question - Taking back to shop?

Quite a while ago (THis year, around april) i had an off and had to get new trousers.

As I commute daily, I spent £100 on some waterproof lined and padded trousers from RST (Royally Sh1te material!!!) from a local bike shop.

Now i've been wearing my leathers during the summer, and have gone to my waterproofs as its getting wetter and colder.

A few weeks back before i put the inner lining in, it rained and i got soaked around the nether regions! All the way through. I thought about it jsut being the inner lining not being there and didn't worry.

As those around London will know, the last few days haven't been exactly dry and i've been getting home absolutly soaked. I was wet all the way through to my undies before i'd even got out of London and onto the A2. I've never had this issue before with ANY of ym waterproofs so am pretty cheesed off that the most expensive ones i've bought turn out to be the worst.....

Im going to call the bike shop, but wondered how I may stand should he turn round and say, "tough poo" basically, as it was quite a while ago that I bought them (even if i havne't used them that much, they shouldn't leak still).

Anyone offer any advice? I'd like to call them today prefferably and sort it.

Thanks

it depends on the shop imo its been too long (6 months) to take them back.but if you have the recipt? & they have not been used much you may be lucky.
if not ask the shop to phone their suplyer & explain to them that they just dont work

good luck

If they were sold as being 100% waterproof, then you can claim there must be a manufacturing fault. However, this is a big if!

If this is the case, you have 12 months from date of purchase, and prooving purchase is easy. Ideally a receipt, but also a bank statement, a friend who was with you, the shops CCTV (could be on something like a 30day rotation - which won't help), sometimes even a carrier bag from a shop can be used as proof of purchase!

However, not many bike waterproofs are marketed as 100% waterproof. Mainly because, well, they leak sooner or later.

All goods sold i believe have a 12 month warranty. I have taken a pair of boots back 360 days later that leaked, and got a replacement, I have also sent back 2 pair of Sidi black rains and got replacements, i also got a pair of richa monsoon trousers replaced all probably over the 6 months. It really does help if you have the reciept, however, if they know you, then they should replace them.

I recently had to get onto Hein Gericke about my gloves that had come apart at the stitching. Ive had em just under 2yrs and worn the almost daily. They have been really good and agreed to give me a new pair as their warranty is 2yrs.

I always buy Gortex waterproof stuff if i can as Gortex themsleves guarantee the waterproofness of their liner in the product for 5 yrs! Sometimes a bit more pricey but for 5yrs waterproof guaranteed i think its well worth it.

Good luck with it either way.
