Default What damage to check for?

Following on from the incident with my bike and the lorry - http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=48438

I think it's going to have to be an insurance claim. The fairing needs replacing, and the fairing mounting, but any idea how much this would cost to fix? I'm going to lose my 'No Claims' for this year, even though it wsan't my fault, so I only want to claim if it's going to cost a bit.

Also, what other damage should I check for, is it possible the frame could have been damaged, and is there an easy way to see this by eye?

I'm going to call the insurers tonight to make a claim, but I guess they'll have to get it taken away for repair, as I'm not sure it's rideable at the moment due to potential hidden damage.

TIA
Jo

bikes cost a fortune to fix via your insurance with OE parts, just falling off the side stand shouldnt cause frame damage but who can tell if you go the insurance route tell them you want it checking. wouldnt it just be better to look for a second hand fairing on ebay?

I would suggest taking it into a dealer's and getting a list of problems. Not necessarily getting the stuff done there, but getting it checked professionally and then working from there.

Err, shouldn't you be claiming off the other party?

As it was mooted it was hit by a lorry, wold get the frame, headstock and forks checked out specially if the fairing brackets are bent where the lorry hit it.

Well, have called the insurers. I wasn't happy about me checking the bike over, nor do I want to ride it until it has been checked, and if I'm gonna pay for it to be picked up and checked, I may as well get the insurance to do it.

My excess is £175, and altho I'll lose my no claims, I only had one year anyway (legal protection doesn't cover me, as no-one got any details of the lorry).

So Colin Collins in Harrow will be calling me tomorrow to arrange collection and do the repairs.

I must say, top marks to A-Quote insurance (those are the guys who ring you if you do a quote on ebike, and offer to find you a better deal), and once again to Norwich Union (the underwriters). NU were superb when I had my accident, and are being totally co-operative again this time.

I've happened to have an NU underwritten policy two years in a row, and will most probably continue to go with them in future if this is the level of service they offer - no hanging around on the phone, polite customer services, and quick to get things done.

Jo

P.s. - I know others would have sourced secondhand parts and done the work themselves, but I am utterly technically incompetent (dangerously so), and therefore it's better for all of mankind that I am kept away from hammers and screwdrivers

P.p.s. - If anyone wants to get a quote from A-Quote, they are http://www.aquote.co.uk/aq.asp

P.p.p.s. - No, I don't work for them
