Default This Years Euro Trip

Having spent most of the Christmas break deciding where we were going to go this year, and the weeks since fine-tuning, we thought some of you might be interested in our plans for this summer's trip.

We are leaving on Friday 22nd June and going from Dover to Calais. £42 return fare with P&O. We arrive at Calais around 12.30 and have a 230 mile trip to our first nights accommodation, at Dun sur Meuse, just a few miles north of Verdun. We'll be staying here, as we know Ian and Carol from last year and she's a fellow SV rider

We will be spending a second night there, as we want to visit some of the 1st World War sites in the area, especially Verdun. We are also taking other people with us for the first time ever, and they are keen to do the same.

On the Sunday we will be heading across into Germany and down to Meersburg on the shores of Lake Constance.

One night there, and then off to our real reason for the trip................this place.

Any place that wants to become the most motorcycle-friendly road in Europe has got to be worth a visit. In fact, a book about the Austrian Tyrol we got out of the library says 'The hairpin turns are so tight they feel as if they were built for two-wheeled vehicles rather than four, which might help to explain why motorcyclists treat it as their Holy Mountain'

We will be spending three nights there, at this place, the highest hotel on the road.

Normally we wouldn't spend so long at one hotel, but there are a lot of things to do in the area, quite apart from 'That Road'. We will also be going here

And we've got to do this

Our journey home starts with this

Taking in this place en route

The rest of the trip is more like one of our normal trips, fluid and subject to change. You can't beat a bit of spontaneity!

Sounds great....

I keep thinking about the Austrian Alps, the guys over on www.alpineroads.com talk about it a lot. Must get down there, not this year though.... I did hear that the road surface of the Grossglockner wasn't as good as it has been, but it may have been sorted by now.

Looks like you're going to have a great time, and there's nothing like chatting about the days ride over good food, good wine and with good company; it makes the whole trip worthwhile.

Have fun !

Sounds like fun Lissa. If you have a couple of days spare it maybe worth an overnighter through to the Dolomites for the scenery - and endless hairpins - a day down one way - a day back up another.

The Gerloss pass is another great one - the surface on this was brilliant and althought not as big or good as the Grossglockner it was worth the effort.

I hope the weather gods are shining and look forward to lots of pics to get me excited for later in the year!
