Default MP3 advice...

Birthday pressie for the missus.

Any one bought one recently/for xmas?

I would like one with an FM radio...& pc compatible (think my pc has the standard USB - I see there's a USB2 kicking around now).

I'm under 'guidance' to not spend too much So, as far under a hundred quid as poss - nearer 50 is good.

I've had a quick browse around the net - there's so much choice - just wondered if anyone had an 'instant answer'...you know what you peeps are like

*awaits patiently*

There was a little bit about them in the Sunday times today - had about 6 different ones to choose from, for different budgets, uses etc.
If it's of interest to you, I'll go and dig it out my recycling bin.

Found the times on line - the review is there...cheers It led me on to pixmania.com who seem to have some outstanding deals aswell as reviews, which are often useful...so this might solve my problem.

Hovi5 - had a look at dixons/currys - bit too pricey for what I want, not that she's not worth it it's just expense, kids/mortgage/bike you know what I mean. But cheers anyway.

Any ideas what storage you're looking for?

If you want high storage you're going to have to go for a hard drive model and go closer to the £100 limit but if you can live with 1GB (which is plenty for the gym/car journeys etc) then go solid state.

It's a shame you need FM otherwise I'd say go for the shuffle every time. It's gorgeous.

A friend of mine has the Zen Nano which she bought as she wanted the radio too (she never uses it )[/url]

well I bought the wife an MP4 player with fm radio and 4GB of storage & rechargeable for £30 off fleabay.

It looks like an ipod, but lacks the connectivity as it only has a usb and headphone socket, example

Ended up downloading a bulk rename utility so that downloaded music is named in a suitable manner without all the artist/album stuff in the file name and now also have an excellent utility called Zortan mp3 media studio which allows me to manipulate the mp3 header details so that things like the mp3 track name or album name track number etc can be set from the file name etc.

Seriously though. there is some damm good kit out there and I seriously question why people want to pay the extra for Ipods or creative thingies etc.

OK you just then have to know where to find the music/video you want

Cheers guys - there's alot of good stuff out there - had a look at the zen nano, didn't realise it did radio (she's a R4 fan - which is nice! ) so that might be a good possibility. On a personal level though that shuffle thingy looks quite good

Storage? No more than a Gig should suffice....

Just have to investigate the price now....off to tinternet land i go....

I like my hulking great Zen Nomad 60gb... It's almost as big sa my garage but I forgive it, since it has every CD I own on it at 256Kbps. Bit over budget for this... Creative's software's not very good, but it works.
