Default short vid about illegal HID conversion kits Worth watching

watch out for the beam alignment test at the mot station, I have noticed an increased number of chav mobiles dazzling me over the last couple of years .

time they had a clampdown methinks.

Glad I didn't fit those aftermarket HID lights to my bike after all.

Not too sure about the precision of the "illegal" statements they make (exactly which law is it they contravene?), the statement from the govt didn't say they were illegal and as far as I'm aware fitting them as aftermarket isn't illegal per se.

The message more or less supports what I've read and heard elsewhere though.

I wonder whether different manufacture of HID kit perform diffrently? As we all know there are lamps then there are lamps.........

I thought it was illegal to use something on the road which is not compliant with the MOT test regulations. So perhaps fitting them is not illegal, but certainly driving on the road with them fitted must be against the law.

hey don't get me wrong (i was very near purchasing some myself, for the bike) but i would have to see the same thing fitted to another machine and test it wit hsome paper held in front to see how sharp the beam was after fitting, before i would consider them viable.

I have no doubt that not all are the same

they may have had plenty of money to spend 300 quid lights 250 for 1/2 hour fitment :P

you would have thought a 300 quid set would have performed better

I think this is where legalese comes into play. I was being pedantic really.

The vid kept saying it was illegal to fit them etc, and that's not the case. MOTs and Construction & Use is another example of where the law (in the strict sense) isn't necessarily quite what you'd expect.

It's a bit like crossing double white lines............

If you were prosecuted as a result of being stopped with these HID conversions fitted the offence wouldn't be "having HID lamps fitted", it would be something else.

or like PartP electrics (Building Regs), the offence is failure to notify, the offence is not doing the job in the first place. But that gets even more intricate where it's really the Statutory Instrument and not the Building Reg which lays down the law.

Sorry, nit-picking again
