Default wheelspin & back wheel locking

hey I had a problem with my bike last night, every time I accelerated no mater how fast I was going or how fast I was accelerating I was getting huge amounts of wheel spin from the back.. this was particularly scary on corners as I couldn't accelerate out of them, the other problem i had which is connected is whenever i put the brakes on softly they locked up.. it wasn't couldn't cold or icy last night, and i checked my tyres and they seem normal, anyone suggest the cause as I'm too scared to go out on the bike now.

Weird, that does sound scary. I assume that when you say the brakes locked up, you mean the back brake?
Secondly, are you certain the wheel is spinning/locking, and that it wasn't the clutch slipping?

If the wheel actually was spinning/locking then I guess you should make sure you're not dropping any fluid.

Well comming home last night though london at abt 2-3am it was very cold, not icy or wet just cold and the tyres would not stick very well to the road, even comming off the throttle it would loose grip and slow down quicker than the bike. Its prolly just the tyres are very cold with a mix of cold roads.

yeah, the back one, well the wheel locking up, I'm guessing it was because it had grip, so small amounts of braking locked it..
It was defiantly the wheel spinning as I felt the lack of control going round corners, and also the back of bike going from side to side when trying to accelerate

I thought it could have been petrol from the petrol station as the ground was quite slippy, but when I got home i couldn't see anything on the tyres.

I'm quite sure there's no leaking liquids either, but will take another look, I think the best thing to do is to take the bike out again, to see if its still there, as i now know what to expect if it is as bad as yesterday.

You could be right, I did notice the ground was a bit frosty, but didn't think it would have affected the bike as much as it did. or as much on the busy roads which weren't frosty due to the amount of traffic on the road.

Cold Tyres and or You've picked up Diesel on the tyres of your bike when you were filling up with Petrol in the garage.

Fizz is probably right, if you're on still on the stock D220's I find they don't grip well in cold conditions.

I had the same thing last week in west london, the roads were just greasy as hell. I put it down to cold roads, bit damp, salt but no ice, cold tyres. Once its like that I lock the back up lots as no way am I using the front brake when going slow.

My Avon Azaro STs are supposed to like the wet but I'm not convinced, I was happier on the Road Attacks.

Cheers for the help guys, Yeah I put it down to the cold roads, mixing that with the diesel probably didn't help much. It seems a bit better today, still locking up, but at closer to normal preasure and not getting any wheel spin unless I hurl the throttle, but will keep and eye out.

If you had just filled up with fuel maybe some was coming out of the over flow? I always worry about this but never had a problem.

Also the road conditions just cant be trusted!
