Default Dolphins...

Anyone see the news at half five this morning? Had a snip about the Japanese and how they go about catching dolphins and then talked about the 'selection' process - certain ones for marine aquariums/sealife centres etc and others for.....well....the dinner table?! Not a pretty sight I can tell you!!

Just a tad controversial in this part of the hemisphere.

Why is it not right? Is it because they [dolphins] are clever? But so are humans (supposedly) and we kill/imprison/teach tricks to & occasionally eat in some cultures.

Dolphins are mean and nasty anyway - they just got a good press agent in Flipper. They beat up Porpoises who are much cuter.

I think they're sneaky and are only clever when not swimming around in a big gang giving it large, clicking away in a sea-slang that is bound to cause friction with the other water dwellers. Very intimidating.

In saying that, brutally slaying them isn't on.

Porpoises are over fed. They're greedy and that's why dolphins pick on them. They deserve a right good nose-butting.

Good post.

Alot of animal rights campaigners appear to be completely shallow, caring only about animals that are cute, or fluffly, or have big friendly eyes...

When was the last time you heard a campaign to preserve the slimey lesser spotted deformed sand eel? (Yes I made that up, but you get the idea).
