DO NOT LOOSE YOUR KEY!!!!!!!!!! i have just done this and had to fit a new lock set!!! cost me £50 for a second hand set, and the amount of work required to change them is a nigthmare!! to fit the ignition lock requires removing the wing mirrors, upper side fairings, front subframe assymbly, fuel tank, and air filter box!!! suzuki have used a thread locking compound on the security torx bolts which makes it a nigthmare to unsrew them! (which of course is their intesion) lucky enougth i had left my steering lock off! would have been a whole different story if it was on! the connector for the ignition lock is under the air box! the tank, another nightmare! to remove the filler cap assembly you need to unlock the cap to remove it, little bit hard if you dont have the bloody key!!! lol so with a large flat blade screw driver and hammer i unlooked the tank, little bit concerning considering i had just filled the tank up with petrol!!! lol and the rear seat lock.... remove the front seat, under tray, reach up and pull the cable to release the seat, then remove the rear cowl to access the lock! took me 3 and a half hours!! never again! im going tomorrow to get another key cut. dont loose your only key!!! |

I managed to get a pattern one for £35 off ebay, all i did was under the top yoke nuts, turned it upside down undone the bolts to get the lock off then prop the tank and remove the air box to get a the connector

As soon as I got a spare key, I lost the original for a good long time. Must have not been taking care of it because I knew I had a spare.

Definately a good reminder to get a copy made just in case you lose your original.
To put this in context I used to own a CBR6 that had the Hiss lock on it. There was transponder in the key, this communicated with the receiever mounted to the barrel which in turn communicated with the ECU. I got the key copied when I first got the bike, not knowing any nof this existed. Anyway I lost the key somehow, was left stranded in town. I got someone to bring the spare key to find it didnt work. I ended up needing a new ECU, which worked out at around 400 quid. If I hadnt had the spare key cut I would also have needed a new barrel and a lock for the underseat. Lancaster honda done it for about 440 quid with two new keys. the nearest honda dealer wanted me to get a new ECU, new receiever, new locks and new keys because the way I thought out 'wouldnt work'. Anyway, if you dont have a spare key for your SV then get one cut and dont keep thinking 'I'll do it tomorrow' or god dammit it will happen!! ![]() |
