I am almost done fixing my naked curvey after a 35 mph low slide out, but it seems to ride wobbly, and drifts to the right. Now I think this may have to do with the bent handlebars. The left hand bar is about 3cm higher than the right. Is that enought to cause drift and an overall "off" problem? Also, does anyone know anything about instrument clusters, mine took a bit of a hit and now the RPM meter is goofy. (slow responses, wont measure below 1200 rpm, but engine sounds and responds smoothly) Maybe time for a new cluster...

For a start it may help if you tell us the model? year? naked or faired? what was damaged, what you have fixed or repaired?
Perhaps then we can judge more acurately what's going on ![]() But of the top of my head, I'd check front wheel spindle, bearings,forks (stations and internals), yokes and then obviously get the bars sorted, also making sure the locating bolts/lugs are OK. Cheers Mark.

It is a naked 2000 SV. Only damage was to the left tail, which bent the subframe slightly, bent handle bars, and busted instrument cluster. From what I can sort out from the crash, there wasnt much abrupt force on any single part of the bike, just drag damage. The front end, if anything, took more force.

Does the steering stem bend often? Where are/how do i check the spindles and lugs?

First things first, make sure the forks aren't twisted in the yokes if you haven't already - support bottom of bike, loosen all yoke bolts, and twist front wheel slightly until it's free, make sure it's pointing straight ahead then tighten up.
If this doesn't fix it, likely to be bent forks. |
