Has anyone have any experience with these? I bought a set before Christmas to help get me from London back to Cardiff for the standard issue turkey/booze fest. After wiring them up I took off and got a few miles under my belt before becoming totally frustrated with the damn things. Basically, you need to keep switching them between 'start' mode and 'on' mode. The respective difference between the two seems to be 'warm up' and 'cool down'. I'm not sure why they can set the heat output to something useful but on that point I have had a thought... Is it possible (seems reasonable) to install a variable resistor (or something similar) somewhere within the circuit so that the 'start' output can be modified to something constant and reasonable - like a dimmer light switch? I personally don't have a clue when it comes to electronics but would be very grateful for some advice. All answers on a self addressed envelope please... Cheers, Noisie |

Errr, you're talking about variable heat control hot grips, they sell those you know.

Yes, but the girlfriend bought the Daytona ones instead.
I've also heard bad things about the switches on the Oxford grips. |

Oxford do the Hot Grips and Hot Hands, I think it was the Hot Grips that had the faulty switch, but they have brought out a new switch. I have the Hot Hands, which are velcro over wraps for the bars, so arent permenant... they only have an on and an off setting... and get nice and toasty for my needs... I did have one of them fail on me, but just took it back to HG, and had it replaced straight away.... you have to be carefull on how you route the wire around the bar, as you can end up fraying it, and short the thing out. But come summer, I can take them off the bike, as well as the switch, and no one would ever know they were there...
No complaints with the Oxford stuff from me. As for your current grips, there should be no reason why you cant set them up as you want, though it will probably need a bit of soldering at one point.. you could build your own box if need be... |
