Is there any way of telling from the chassis number if my '01 curvy is a Y or a K1? As just having it MOTd and the garage need to input this data (it's a personal import that I've brought back from Europe and needs Mot ing before I can register it).
Thanks, Tim Last edited by Tim in Belgium; 03-04-07 at 09:15 AM. |

Wheels I think, Y's had silver, K1's had black (but I may be wrong...)
Here's my old K1 ![]() With black wheels.... . Last edited by Jelster; 03-04-07 at 09:32 AM. |

No, the early SV's had the nice black wheels, later ones had the silver. Don't know what model year they changed though.

According to Haynes, american frame numbers have a Y just before the number for model year Y and a 1 for model year K1. May be the same for a foriegn import.

It gets fiddly though, frinstance Jelster's one's got the machining on the fork legs for an '00, not an '01, but that's just down to when they cleared the old stocks as much as anything else. You can also find K4s with the K5 gear selectors in, stuff like that, and wheels can be replaced. Frame number and major changes like frame or engine colour are good indicators, I just can't remember which year is which colour just now

They used the same black all the way through the curvey's though. 3 different blues, 2 yellows, 2 reds (but none officially in the UK) and only 1 silver (I think)

At the end of the day, look at your V5, that will give the information (or should do)

I'll check the Belgian docs tonight, hopefully that will answer my question, was just wondering if there was a quick way so the garage could get on but obviously there's no 100% sure answer.
Silver wheels and silver/grey engine with some darker grey/black covers. Thanks for the input anyway. |

Yeah, I reckon that's a K1 then. Look at the right hand fork, and see if it has 2 pinch bolts in the bottom or 1. Not at all conclusive since I think loads of K1s have 2 bolts, but it's very unlikely that any Ys have only one, unless it's been swapped.
