Default Do you need a ruddy good servicing?

Spent an afternoon in the company of the inestimable Mr Sidney of the Squid clan to do my 17k service and sort my fork springs out, and it was just like going to a main dealer...

Except he was cheaper, let me watch what he did, was cheaper, allowed me to ask stupid questions, was cheaper, made me a nice cup of tea, was cheaper, uses amazing tools that look like they are used for smoking wacky backy, was cheaper, had a laugh and a joke while we did it, oh, and did I mention that he was MUCH CHEAPER!

Did a fantastic job too, and when he spotted a couple of things that weren't quite right fixed them without any fuss.

I highly recommend his services to anyone who needs their bike looking after, so give him a shout.

Thanks Mr Squid, you are a Very Nice Man!!!

Pah, he just let you watch????

I was round at Chez Jambo to do my 7,500 mile service.

Armed with the relevant bits, I did my OWN 7.5k service, althought there was much advice from Mr Jambo, and a fair amount of reference to a Mr Haynes, and when needed, Mr Jambo stepped in did what was needed.

So I learned how to convert my faired SV into a naked SV (in a manner that doesnt involve hitting other objects at speed, how to convert it into a unicycle and how them fork thingies at the front work and come apart.

Oh AND I also had the pleasure of a visit and advice from Sir Rictus of the Wonky Knee, who was kind enough to provide the tools required to help with a particularly stubborn lock nut, I believe it was a 2lb club hammer and a modified cold chisel....

I would say that your service was probably done a little faster, I think we were at it for about 7 hours, but that included Tea and Lunch breaks and hiding from the rain time.

So we managed to get the Hyperpro progressive springs in the front and despite the disbelief at the impressive air-gap they say to leave - 140mm, compared to the 94mm that Haynes claims, it all seems good, managed to hit a few middling pot-holes and do a few Sudoxe stops at lights and nothing bottomed them out - and thats on zero preload at the moment.

So thanks to Jambo for the assistance and advice and thank to Rictus for the immoral support

Seems to have been service day yesterday, Done a oil/filter change on the CB, valve check, clean and re-gap the plugs, all ready for the outing at the end of the week.

(not a bad idea for all thoughs going to AE07)

Cheers Mark

I gave mine a proper walk-round last night, and unexpectedly found that the clutch lever adjuster was about to fall off- it'd broken round about 4/5 of the diameter, and turning it was just bending the remaining part. Never seen that before. (It's a GSXR OE part) though I've figured out what caused it. I've got a spare, but it just shows, even when your bike seems to be working perfectly a proper check before a trip is always a good idea. Stuff that's just annoying when it happens on your commute can be a bit worse when it happens in a different country

Well i put most of a TL together (engine, frame, swingarm, yokes, new bearings all round etc etc) and got only 2 cups of tea, pha, and had to take the owner of the bike to and from aylesbury. Was not only me doing it though. Hate servicing though, end up in a broken engine, not that it matters now anyway.

And all of the above was AFTER Mr Squid had done a 12 000 mile service on my Thou - along with replacing my chain & sprockets.

I can only echo Mr Bear's words - all done with no fuss or bother & without any sucking in of air through pursed lips, tutting or the use of any patronising comments !! Oh yes, & as well as 'proper' coffee served throughout the day by the lovely Mrs Squid bacon sandwiches were served at lunchtime !!

So just to sum up - if any of you need any work done & would rather pay less & get better service than at a dealer I'd suggest a PM to Sid Squid.

Thanks Ian !!

I was even inspired to spanner my bike today, so I've now got my exhaust to go on straight after it being on for a year pointing in the wrong direction! God, my bike's looking like a proper one now...

Still not big enough tho...
