all you really need to do is to get a pistonseal kit and the pistons for the front. Annodised?? never heard of them personally. once i got mine changed they worked very well. i also changed the hoses at the same time. i believe the whole piston and seal kit was around 56 quid from cresent suzuki. fitted them myself so saved a lot more. that should de the trick

How old is your bike?It may be worth thinking about replacing the calipers with a used set off a newer crashed bike.Saves a lot of messing about and can be cheaper if you shop around.Old calipers can be rebuilt, but if the bores are scratched they soon go again.

Interested as i'm doing mine just now.

Is £42 a fair price for dust and oil seals, front and rear?

You could get adaptor plates to run GSXR 6-pots, but it'd be a bit rubbish... It'd add a load of weight, and the SV forks are probably as much of a limit on braking as the calipers are. If you want to swap calipers, use the 4-pots not 6, they're better in the real world as well as cheaper and lighter.

But tbh the best braking upgrade you can do is to just look after them- if your current ones are damaged to the point where they need new pistons then they've been neglected, GSXR ones would go the same way soon enough if treated the same. Do you ride in winter? Salt buildup's the number one brake killer. Decent pads- something like Carbon Lorraine A3+... The SV brakes, when they're in good condition, are actually pretty good. An R6 master cylinder (the recent 16mm Brembo) is a top upgrade and not too pricey, around £40 usually.

He is right you know

My SV calipers were rebuilt not too long again. Pistons were sticking on one side and the sliding bit was err....not sliding. The sliding part is probably over-looked by many during routine maintainance.

Anyhoos, with that done, two finger stoppies are achievable. I'm talking proper stoppies and not ickle ones. I don't even use fancy pads either.

Saying that if I do keep the bike, I'll be putting GSXR K1-K2 calipers on...when finally get round to having the brackets made . Easier to look after IMO.

Ben

Yeah, I like the A3+s because they last pretty well and they work a bit better in the wet than the OE ones (at least in the GSXR calipers), but they don't give much away on outright power over the SBKs and HHs and suchlike and aren't stupidly bitey. Much more sensible road pad I reckon. Not cheap, mind

Take them apart, give them a ruddy good clean, fit some braied hoses and new pads, and discs too if they are needed.

Then decide if you need to spend lotsa money!
