Default Honda Technician Needs Advice!! Now!!!!

Ok, so I have disassembled my sv650 curvy starter motor as it was sticking, looks ****ed but anyway after filling the street with a litre of oil its gone back on. Press the starter....... WHIZZZZZZZZ!, doesnt turn the engine over??!! Ok, Iv had a hard day at work replacing shims and testing regulator rectifiers etc, My brain is in do do mode now. Anybody know of anything I should look out for?? Could the starter motor be spinning the wrong way somehow? I dont ****ing know and its dark outside, save me the hassle and give me some clues

thanks

When you took the starter off, did you check if the starter clutch was still ok?

Inside the hole is the starter clutch gear, try turning it, it should turn one way but not the other, if its going both ways free then its not engaging with the flywheel. Its a messy issue to resolve.

Im not sure if the starter can turn the other way, someone enlighten me if its possable with standard sv wiring.

Can't imagine how, short of reverse connecting the battery.
Still thinking starter clutch - as long as the motor is spinning, the relevant bits still have their teeth, and assuming all has gone back where it came from, (idler gear and shaft specifically), that's the only place that the trouble could still be.

See, this is the chaos that ensues letting Honda techs anywhere near the dissembled parts of another make of bike...

... they're so used to seeing a Honda in one bit and running well that they get all lost and confused in a mess of oil and metal.
