Default Off side rule for Girls...

...

You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which
you must have.

The female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing them with desire.

Both of you have forgotten your purses.

It would be totally rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money to pay for the shoes.

The shop assistant remains at the till waiting.

Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma.

She prepares to throw her purse to you.

If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other shopper and buy the shoes.

At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and,*whilst it is in flight* you could nip around the other shopper, catch
the purse and buy the shoes.

Always remembering that until the purse has *actually been thrown* it would be plain wrong to be forward of the other shopper.

A player is in an offside position if they are nearer to their opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second to last opponent.

However, it is not an offence to actually BE in an offside position.

A player in an offside position is only penalised if, (at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of their team) they are involved in active play (i.e. by participating in play, interfering with an opponent or gaining an advantage by being in the aforementioned position.)

See Stuarty, that's MUCH easier to understand!

This requires the assistant referee to be looking at 3 things simultaneously. Which is impossible.

If they're not involved, what the hell are they doing there in the first place? Which brings us neatly to the role of a man in shoe shopping...

Dunno why, but this thread has made me think of the definitions of "involved" and "committed".

Your typical Sunday morning bacon butty... The frying pan was involved. The pig was committed.

I guess, to keep with the theme, in that lovely pair of shoes, the cobbler was involved, the cow was committed.

Sorry

So how can an offside offence ever be given then?

As far as I can make out, they are given against you when it was "never at all" and not given against the other team when "he's a mile off!"
