Question Cam swap, ignition advance, jetting?

Ho, boys and girls, tech gurus espesh.
My 2001 Raptor 650 is getting a birthday.
Any jetting advice for the following set up .
Stock 2001 motor.
Ive done stuff Northwind reccomends, cam swap (New K3 intakes , Oi now exhausting and ignition advance 4 dgrees)

I advanced the ignition by slotting the pick up plate mount holes.
2 Hours with a dremel.

I have std Mikunis / filter/ airbox/ snorkel, 137.5 mains.

Std rap exhaust 2into 2 with a balance pipe, big , strong, heavy std cans, which I like, stealth is good. Porbably a bit less restrictive than the stock SV 2 into 1 .

I plan getting the air /fuel ratios checked at the Knock hill dyno, any tips, what to take , maybe a 140 or 145 Main jet?
If so where is good to get one.
Ive got this week off so I hope to get it done soon.
Bike ran great before strip down and I have an old dyno run for a crude comparison.

Northy, couldnt/ wouldnt have done this without your posts, many thanks.
Also the BARF write up was a great help for the cam swap.

Cheers

Nearly there , just off to get oil .

You're welcome Other people taught me this stuff, thank them!

I like YPE at Bonnyrigg for dyno work... They'll spend a bit more time over it than most for the same price, and they're usually up for something interesting. If you're thinking of changing the filter, do it first... I have no idea what to make of the stock cans though, I'd think they may actually flow a bit better than the SV standard but I've never played with one Think I may have the jets you'd need, depending on your results...

Thanks for the quick answers Northy.
I will check out YPE, my Gixxer riding pal has also said good stuff about them.
Im in Argyll so I had hoped to get a couple of runs on the dyno with a jet change if needed.
What are ye up to this week? I could meet up with you someplace, couple of ifs, though, bike needs MOT tax, but the MOT is a cert. Should get that tomorrow.

This week I'll probably be nursing my shoulder, done something daft to it But if you want the spare jets, you'd be welcome over at mine provided I don't need to shift anything heavy to find them! I can give you a fisftul and you can just bring back any spares.

Since you're running stock air filter then I don't imagine you will need to alter your jetting. The ignition advance just needs the correct octane fuel and cams allow more of the right mixture in.

I'd be inclined to go with that meself, for an SV, but I've heard other Raptor owners say that they need a jet higher than standard for best results. The one I rode was as lean as all hell with slipons, seems to be a pretty good basic exhaust system

Got it running tonight, after a major backfire session caused by connecting the coils back to front, not before the massive self doubt, spark, fuel, cam timing check,, bugger.
Seems fine, pickups up clean at least so far , before the shed filled with fumes, testing Tuesday, MOT Wednesday,
Ive e mailed YPE about a run , what are the odds of riding from Oban to Bonnyrigg and back without getting wet on a random day picked by YPE I wonder.
Cant wait to try the results.
Cheers

Are you the guy that had the Raptor at Knockhill when we were all up, and stacked it at the hairpin, by any chance? Might have asked you that before...

Yep,
I still get a beemer when I mind that.
The bike has been running well since then.
A postie reversed into me last year (light font end damage and scuff, I was static and unhurt, at the time) so Ive spent the last month in the shed spending the insurance on cams and stuff, most of which hasnt arrived yet , but the cams are in and shims checked OK.
Serviced the brakes , new chain and sprockets.
Painted up some scabby bits and removed the pair system.
Found a crack in the RHS exhaust mount and took the motor out to get the frame welded, , good welder in Oban, David Ferguson, Lochavullin industrial estate. Very good with alloy and Stainless.
Its been a busy last 3 weeks.
Cheers

Small world Look on the bright side, we were all too busy slating Dirty Baz to pay you much heed! That and being sympathetic about riding all the way to Fife, doing one session IIRC, then riding home with no gear lever...
