Question Speed wobbles?!?

Speed wobbles?!?

Not sure if it was but that is what it felt like.

Normally I ride around the 70-80mph mark on the motorways (this takes care of the Speedo being 5mph out) but the other day on a quite stretch of private road I though I would ‘give it’ some just to try out the wind blast at 110-120mph.

This was in a straight line and the front end felt ‘lose’ and I was getting minor wobbles, by minor I mean really really small, like aquaplaning ever so slightly.

It was a windy day and was wondering if that was the cause or weather the steering goes ‘light’ at speed?

Can't say I've experienced it on my K6 SVS. Doesn't sound normal to me.

EDIT: Well, not in a straight line anyway. Hard on the throttle on uneven road after playing with the suspension, yes, but not in a striaght line.

must admit mine has always felt fine .... happy almost

It does perhaps feel a little light (but only a little) up front, but lets face it, shouldnt that be expected?

Certainly no wobbles

oh, for interest K1 svs, full faired

i get a bit when its windy on my naked curvy. but then again it is expected. if it is windy, then yea you can get some wobble, depending on how the wind is hitting you as you are going along.

The thou is certainly rumoured to experience a gentle high speed weave, which until this morning I had never encountered. However, going up an empty M40 I decided to give it a bit of stick, and could definately feel a slight 'wibble' when I eased off. I can't complain at the speed I was going - not quite 150, but not far short

I have upped the preload on the rear as I normaly have my other half on the back, she was not on the back this time though.

It was only a really minor twitching not a wobble as such.

It was really windy and just wanted to check that I was not going to get a full blown tank slapper if I had to turn, it disapeared once I was back into 2 figures on the Speedo.

Hi I have taken my K2 up to 130 - on the IOM, as fast as I can get it to go on the mountain section. At those kind of speeds you can get a little shake, especially over uneven surfaces. However I have found the SV very stable and any shaking is tiny and brief. I have not heard of anyone comming off an SV due to a tank slapper and so would not worry about it. Just go light on the bars and it'll snap out of it.

Check you tyre pressures - I know its kind of an obvious thing - but it can effect things like that and its a simple thing to check.

I also had a kawasaki zx7rr which was renound for a solid front end and was quite a heavy bike in comparison to modern sports bikes, but that shook its head when really pushed on A roads. Again it just snapped back in and that bike had way more power than the SV.

Coming off the throttle sharply makes my k6 wiggle a bit. Could be anything, even something as simple as tyre pressures.

Thats it, a little shake that is only just noticable, I might have been holding on to tight as well, I don't normal go that fast as I get scard and I don't like pain!

Good point on tyre pressures, I have been trying different pressures (there was a what pressure thread so have been trying things)

Looks like I'm worring over nothing, like I said I don't go that high on the seepdo so it was all a new feeling to me.

Thanks for the replies

Relax, it's possible your tensed arms are steering when you don't mean to, at speed this can manifest itself as a continuous cycle of steering over-correction - a weave.
