Default scotoiler rain settings

Hi ,

Had a scotoiler fitted for a while now , really impressed , afterjuggling with the flow rate have settled on 1 drop every 40 seconds ,
In the rain it appears not to be enough , what would you recommend setting it in the rain , I was thinking 1 drop every 20 seconds ish ?

Cheers Steve

Depends on the position of the resevoir, how much pipe, ambient temp etc I normally turn I've normally got mine on the 6 -7 position and then check my chain when I stop for fuel etc and then adjust accordingly.

Never bothered adjusting mine for rain, just up tha rate a bit come winter and drop it a bit for summer to account for the change in viscosity.

I had mine set for 2 drops/minute after fitting. After my first long run in the rain, I found the chain was as dry as a bone.

As already mentioned the flow depends on the position of RMV , temp etc etc . Therefore the numbers on the RMV will vary per unit / per install .

therefore I adjust mine using how many drops per min , in the dry seem to fine 1 drop every 40 - 50 secs .

Does any one know how many drops per min they are using in wet weather ?

Cheers Steve

I do the same as Welloiled does and change it to suit the temperature and viscosity. My chains seem to last about 25K on average, and that's on litre-bikes. The best I ever got was on my Honda CB250RS and that lasted 55K with a Scottoiler.

I forgot a little Scottoiler tip for high mileage riders and people with multiple bikes.

Don't bother buying Scottoil from a bike shop - find a tree surgeons suppliers or arborialists and by 5 litres of cheap chainsaw oil for about a tenner. It's a 5th of the price of Scottoil and is basically the same stuff. I've been using it for about 5 years now and it obviously does a good job because my chains still last just as long as before.

You will have to set the flow rate again to suit the change in oil, but it's worth the 5 minutes that takes.

Or work for a lubricant additives company and get it for nowt .

I'll have to take a closer tlook at the chain after wet riding - never noticed it being washed off completely but I guess it makes sense.

In this monsoon bank holiday weather , appears that 4 drops per min does the trick .
