Default Old and New SV idea

have been thinking ... if i bought the old SV model (curvy) will the pointy fairings fit on it?

basically my bike died on me on saturday down by gatwick - was on me way down to box and gearbox/clutch gave up - so needs a rebuild.

SV is looking the way to go atm - considering a ZXR400, but SV will be cheaper i should think.

well we had the thread before about which bike for me, but will the new pointy fairings fit the old shape or should i just go for the newer shape altogether?

It has been done, though at the time I tried to get the guys contact details. E-mailed him and he never replied, I think the hardest bit is getting the clocks to work. BigApe has some pointy clocks on his Curvy but not all the functions work.

It'll be easier to find a decent SV than a decent ZXR4 - them kwaks had bullet proof engines but they're still little rev-monsters and need a damn good thrashing (ooh-err) to get the best out of them.

There's not a whole lot of difference price wise between second hand pointies and curvys, them curveys seem to hold their price quite well. And if you're worried about resale value I'd guess a pointy would hold more value than a curvey with a pointy fairing stuck on (which instantly suggests to buyers it's been crashed).

good point...

see im the type of guy who prefers a faired bike, but it has to look aggressive, hence why i dont like the older SV's, too round.

when did the pointer SV first get released? because the older the bike the cheaper my insurance will be.

The first model was the K3 which was 2003, they did the final revision of the Cruvy in 2002 (K2) which had a few extras like preload caps on the forks. I think the K3 is the year that most people have problems getting some parts for though as some things like the seat and stuff differs due to the later revisions, but most of it is the same.

another questoin what is the top speed of the SV when restricted? and does it go through all the gears or just like a twist and go?

Not sure about the K4, you need to ask a pointy owner really.

You'll get about a ton out of a restricted bike.

Um, its not a moped, so it has gears.

I ride one restricted and i'm glad i've done instead of the 125cc route. Goes throught the gears nicely as the torque is low down so you can still leave cars and smallers bikes for dust until you get to more top speed area. But TBH i dont really want top speed really i'd rather accelaration more. But i was getting 110 mph on the M1 n M6 in the morning on Saturday and 115 on the M45 on the way back from B'ham.
