Default Datatool alarms

Well fantastic. The plipper's died on my alarm.

Anyone know if these are a big effort or expensive to replace?

When you say 'plipper' do you mean the key-fob bit? If so they were selling them in Streetbike the last time I was there and I looked at them as I've been thinking of getting another incase mine dies. Veto Evo one was about £70 I think, don't know if thats a good price or not as I never thought about it again after I left.

Yeah- that's the one- cheers. I've had a scoot around on the web now- it's a Veto Plus. I saw one place doing them for £35. I've got a Datatool fitter down the road, so I'll give them a call tomorrow. Tis a Honda dealer, so they're bound to be pricey.

Have a look here-

I'm assuming that you can just buy the thing and use the 2 buttons to align it- no reprogramming is needed. Any ideas?

Doh! Just read the ad again- "Owner programmes in to bike"

Fraid not, from memory you have to put a live feed down one of the alarm wires. I think I used a safety pin and a bit of wire, soz can't remember exactly how now but instructions should be included with the new remote control.

I'm pretty sure you can just change the batteries on these, least you can if it's a system 3. There's a good website for datatool, just google it, and they give you quite a bit of info for these including a list of dealers that will be able to sort you out. It may well be something else though. Have you 'despiked' your alarm system?
AND.......I hope you've got your PIN programmed in
Lastly if you're really having problems with it drop me a PM and I'll let you have the details of a good mobile technician who can come and sort you out. Good luck, freekin' nightmare these things...

Well- got it sorted last night. Eventually. Took 2.5 hours, a lot of head scratching, swearing and support from my Brother.

The instructions for programming a new one just say "remove the lid and internal battery from the alarm". Nice. Easy? No. It's a security product dudes- you need specialist equipment- there are rings around the bolts that secure the alarm to the bike that can't be undone- I had to hacksaw one off, so the alarm's no longer as secure physically (though I will replace the bolt, obviously).

OK- so now to find the programming loop wire- the installation form from the original engineer states "Programming loop wires (green tagged)" The engineer wrote "taped under seat". Only, they weren't green tagged, were they? They were just plain ole black and I only got this sorted due to experimenting with connecting one of these to the battery and it worked (needless to say I did a little dance of joy around the back garden!).

So- got it sorted in the end, but the moral of the story is always have a spare, so you can do it while the alarm is disarmed- saves much time/aggro/butchery of alarm/engineer costs.

One small relief was that Tippetts Honda, in Surbiton, had one in stock for £34. I really expected to pay more/get one ordered in.

Oh well- clutch cable next. Should be a shade easier..!

Edit- ps cheers for the advice guys. The Veto range doesn't require a pin- you just need to reset the alarm and trigger it from the new transmitter- it aligns itselt. Of course, it's never THAT simple, is it?!

Dunno about any security bolt thingys but all I have to do is put a small bag with my bits under the seat and the alarm is alarmingly quiet. (Scuse the pun).

Don't know whether I'll bother if I ever buy another new bike. If I do bother I think I'd rather get a tracker fitted than an alarm.
