Just read the instructions for my renntec rack, under a section headed IMPORTANT it states weight limit 2.5 kgs DO NOT EXCEED WIGHT LIMIT.
That seems mad to me, thats only 2 and a half bags of sugar isn't it? I have used it to transport a tent, double air bed and 2 sleeping bags, think the total weight was about 18kg, everything seemed to be ok. I assume other renntec rack users load theirs beyond the 2.5kgs weight limit, or was I a bit excessive? ![]() |

Crikey, you exceeded the load limit? I bet you've bent the frame as as result!

Mine was the same... didn't listen though and its been fine. I think its cus its held on with the 'pillion' grab rail bolts and there is a risk of them sheering.

What a load of tosh, if you think that under braking if your pillion is holding onto the grab rail what the forces are, a fair ammount.

It's held on with just 2 M8 bolts, and there's a fair amount of potential leverage there... Go over a big bump and it'll load and unload the bolts and welds rapidly, a pillion doesn' exert that sort of stress. Not that any of that stops me from carrying loads of stuff on mine, mind, but I think I do push it sometimes... Renntec'll stick a stupidly low limit on for their own protection but there's always a limit.

As Northwind says, most luggage manufacturers give ridiculously conservative estimates of "maximum" load on things because they know full well people will exceed them, but they (understandably) want it to be the punters' (rather than their own) fault when it snaps when someone really does put a silly amount on it.

I have regularily put 10KG on mine with no probs, would not want to put much more than that on it though.
