Hey everyone, my first post...and it's a question, will introduce myself in the appropriate place very soon!
Basically, I bought a SV650 the other week, and after giving it a good clean, and returning to it the next day, have noticed that the petrol tank is leaking in the back corners, as I have some nice streaks of brown down the shiney frame. It starts at the back corner (next to the seat) of the tank. Is this a know problem, or something new? Whats the best way to stop it? New tanks I'm gussing are not too cheap! |

How bad is the leak? Are you sure it's not coming from the fuel lines! You can get it sealed not sure where but some one will be along with the link!

It's rare but not unknown for an SV tank to rust through at the bottom corners.
The bike standing for a while is a possible cause - water is heavier than fuel and will collect at the lowest points. Do a search and you'll find a few of threads on this.

Could be rusted through I'm afraid... If moisture gets in the tank or it's parked up then that can happen, mine pinholed but I petsealed it and it's been fine since. But you'd need to check out the overall condition first to make sure it's not more structural, petseal/seafoam are great products but they're not a metal replacement. So the thing to do is lift it or ideally, take it off, and have a look under the back.
New tanks aren't cheap, but used tanks aren't usually too bad. Depends on your colour though, some are easier than others. I got my track spare for about £20 with very light damage, minters are usually £50-£100.
