Managed to have a test 'blat' of the new R6 this weekend.
Here is a very brief rundown of what I thought. 1. The attention to detail and quality is superb. You do notice the SVs 'basicness' 2. It is a little cramped. I'm 6'1" and about 12 and a half stone. 3. The suspension is hard, but very well damped. It handles supremely well. 4. It is a little hard work in busy traffic. Its lack of low down torque does not help 5. Is it fast? yes, very. But.....you do have to thrash it to within an inch of its life to get there 17,000 rpm FFS! 6. Is it worth the extra £4,000 it would cost to change my SV for it? NOT IN A MILLION YEARS. Any questions? Last edited by Steve H; 17-07-07 at 09:06 AM. |

'basicness' Don't forget the SV was/is a budget bike! 2. It is a little cramped. I'm 6'1" and about 12 and a half stone. About the same as me. I don't like the look of any of the "tiny" new sports bikes! 3. The suspension is hard, but very well damped. It handles supremely well. Race breeding! 4. It is a little hard work in busy traffic. Its lack of low down torque does not help. That's why we all love the SV engine, it actually has some torque! 5. Is it fast? yes, very. But.....you do have to thrash it to within an inch of its life to get there 17,000 rpm FFS! Too much hard work for me! 6. Is it worth the extra £4,000 it would cost to change my SV for it? NOT IN A MILLION YEARS. Good man!! ![]() Any questions? No! |

Now see, I love the '06 R6. Though as you said, in traffic it's not great, but the bike wasn't designed to sit in traffic. I doubt I'd be able to commute on it for this reason.
I also love the R1 (same year), and I ride both Yam's pretty regular. It has more low down pull (due to engine capacity), but I couldn't commute on that either (too many horses for snowy/icy winter weather!!). Great bikes, just not quite practical enough. |

Good review there Stevo.
I like the look of the new R6 but as you said, I couldn't live with it everyday due to the need to spank it to get anywhere. I actually thought it wouldn't as bad as this, I think something like a Kwak 636 maybe better for lower grunt but still with Missile-like top end performance as well. |

I might have one for sale very shortly, if anyones interested. Probably looking to sell mine early August.
It's a 56 plate black 06 R6, around 3500 miles on the clock. Only mods are R&G bungs, bar ends and a tail tidy. Will do a proper post with pics nearer the time, but thought I would give a heads up Luke |

Moving abroad. Still not definite but looking highly likely. Will also be selling the DR350 as well as some other bits - Abba stand etc
I have looked into it and it makes more sense to buy out there rather than ship the bike over. |
