For deeply private and personal reasons I wish to remove the mudguard on my faired K6. It's only 4 bolts, how difficult can it be?
Mr Haynes says, Step 1 - remove front wheel. Surely not! If I do have to remove it, what is the 'special tool' of which the manual speaks? Is it a 12mm hex key by any chance? |

Not strictly needed, but the inner bolts are certainly easier to access if you do, as long as you can reach them, (I'm sure you will be able to), I wouldn't remove the wheel. Correct: Go to tool shop and buy 12mm Allen key, cut into four pieces, use one piece in 12mm socket so you can use your breaker bar, (or ratchet if you must), to remove/replace, put another piece of 12mm key in the tool kit so that you'll be able to get the front wheel off if you get a flat miles from home, sell the other two pieces to fellow SV650 owners = profit.

True.
However the Allen key will cost about £1.50, and you then sell at least two of the remaining bits at £2 each. And when you put a bit of it in a socket, it looks just like that one anyway.

When taking the front mudguard off my K4 to fit the fender extender, the thought of removing the front wheel never crossed my mind. It was a doddle to remove. Unless they have changed it significantly on the K6, it shouldn't pose you any problems.
