Ok, here's the deal; washed my bike yesterday (all was running well prior to this, 01 curvy btw).
This afternoon, the bike started up ok, but as soon as I blipped the throttle, it cut out and died ![]() My very first thought was water in the tank, so lifted up the petrol cap and lo and behold, lots and lots of water sitting there around the top recess. I took the tank off and drained the 2/3 full tank completely (V-power btw!) and then flushed through with some regular unleaded fuel. I put the tank back on and started it up. But again, it was becoming difficult to maintain idle at all times. I read this thread through; http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...er+petrol+tank And it seems I have all the same issues. Can I add some of that Wynns Dry Fuel Additive or will I need to completely strip down the carbs and rebuild them? Please help if you can, as I am currently un-able to get to university without the bike! Thanks in Advance guys and gals. |

step 1: drain carbs. This can be done in-situ and does not require a strip, you are just emptying out whatever gunk is in the float bowls. The bike will take a little while to fire up after this as it needs to fill the float bowls with fresh fuel before it gets going again.
If this does not work: Check spark plugs are dry, free of water and plug caps are on tight, a little WD40 may help (Just in case it's leccy). It may also be worth checking that the tube going down inside the tank to carry water from the petrol cap down to a drain hose has not been kinked, and left water in there. This can cause it to corrode letting water into the fuel tank whenever it gets wet. This will, unfortunatly mean a new tank as they're not economic to repair. Lets not get too worried just yet though, pleny of chep problems to look at first ![]()
