Default Comments on garstang area route please

Just got back from a 50 mile ride (round trip, non-stop, about an hour and a half) and absolutely knackered when I got off, could barely turn my key in the front door wrists so dead. So the question is, am I picking a damn stupid route to ride over really bad roads?

From Blackpool, Amounderness way, shard bridge, bull park lane (i.e. don't go through Hambleton), left at what was the Priory cafe 20 years ago to Garstang up the back roads coming out at the Chequered flag, A road to Scorton turning, up to Scorton, hill road by side of cafe, left at top, left end of road, left again, through ford (its been 20 years since I drove these roads regular, I forgot it was there!), left , back through Scorton, A road, right at big traffic lights to Cockerham, across Cockerham sands, follow road all the way back to shard bridge, back down Amounderness way and close to home.

Comments on route, road conditions, etc. please, or why my wrists are that worn out.

Squeeze with your thighs/knees, get stompgrips or similar, to get the weight off your wrists. Are your levers repositioned to form a straight line down your arms to the backs of your hands when you operate them?

I do squeze with my thighs which I find helps a lot, but some of those roads are bouncing me off the saddle nearly, and not just the small ones! ( rant about road tax being spent to fix road ) In fact this is must be one of the strains on my wrist as I can't even hold throttle steady, it blips as I go over the bumps, and no I'm not racing down the streets, 40 in a 50 limit some of these, other 30 in a 30.
Seen stompgrips mentioned before, will have to have a look, but don;t really want to spend lots of money on a new bike. Will be used mostly for commuting, and once a month riding around country. TBH more likely to go for handlebar raising than just changing grips, if I decide I can't live with it as is.
Not changed lever posistion, don't want to touch anything until after first service, everything bedded in, and I have got used to the bike and its riding posistion more.

Be silly to find if I just stuck my butt back on seat more everything would have been fine after spending money to fix it. Normally ride with crotch up against tank, currently trying different butt posistions on seat see if it make a difference, right back seems to take weight off, but not overly happy with restricted view I get, and always sit back upright when slowing down in traffic (majority of riding I do).

Andy

I like the road from the roundabout at the Shard Bridge through Out Rawcliffe (Rawcliffe Road) to St Michaels. At the t juction tun right then first left and follow the road past Myscough to the A6 at Owd Nells.

Left and right at the Roebuck (Billsborrow lane) for about a mile and left at the white metal fencing (Lydiate Lane) and keep going all the way up to Oakenclough. Turn left at the fire engine (In front of Oakenclough mill) over the moor and keep going until you get to the Trough Road. Turn left and drop down to the A6 at Galgate. From there over towards Glasson and then Cockerham, and back to shard via Pilling Hambleton etc.

Some good roads, lots of twisities and with the exception of the crawl back from Knott end -> Hambleton reasonably quite with the opertunnity to realy blast in parts.

I'll give that a try and see if I can handle that route better. Currently just picking ones I used to drive my parents on at weekends 20 years ago for days out picnicking. My 80 year old mother is complaining I'm not taking her with me on these days out, but somehow I can't quite see her on the back of the bike when I'm having trouble staying firmly planted in the seat.
She really wants me to drive her round, but then I get the "You're going too fast! Still too fast! Watch out for that leaf on the road! You should have turned left! Right! No left!"

Despite what your mind might tell you when travelling on bumpy sections....try to really relax your arms, dont have them rigid. Plus again contrary to what you might think......really ease up on your grip pressure on the handlebars.HTH.
