you bump start a bike? I have never done it before and it wouldnt start this morning and i didnt really know what i was doing so is this how you do it>?
1. Turn igniton on 2. Engage 3-4th gear 3. Find big hill 4. Push down hill whislt holding clutch in 5. When travelling fast enough let clutch out and pray it starts? I have a search on here but there doesnt seem to be a difinative answer cheers me! |

thats how it worked on my mates 125, not sure if it would work on the sv, I think the back wheel would just lock up due to the preasure in the v twin engine, don't quote me on that tho, I could be wrong.

i like to bounce on the seat as i let the clutch out........... for better grip

I think I used 2nd or 3rd on the SV with my neighbour and brother pushing it down the pavement and me sat on it paddling away (not many hills round here) Bumping on the seat also helps the back tyre grip.

I tend not to use the clutch,
Turn the ignition on, put the bike in neutral and make sure the Kill switch is not active! ![]() Got a few friends/passerby's to help you push it, once you get up to a nice speed, stand up on the pegs, then then drop your toosh on the seat while at the same time kicking the gear lever up to engage second gear - if need be get you pushers to keep pushing you (assuming the rear wheels didn't lock up) until it starts, Its quite difficult to bump the SV, but possible... ![]() Last edited by Ter; 28-08-07 at 01:00 PM. deffo 2nd gear...good lard **** on the seat when letting clutch out and plenty o gas! too much torque from v-twin so rear tyre will just lock up if stay standing on pegs. had same prob 2 month back as accidentally flicked parking lights on before going into work...8.5hrs later dead batt. mine would not start with plenty o pushes and bumps as flat ground & datatool s4 red still works but unable to check if immobiliser on as not enuff life to power indicators!! breakdown recovery with insurance is a must!!

the SV is an easy starter, 2nd gear is fine, you don't even need a downhill (but it helps), in neutral (ignition on) push it along to a fast walk/slow run speed, draw in the clutch, then jump onto the seat at the same time flick it up into second and release the clutch, part throttle and all being equal it should fireup.
always easier if someone is pushing but not at all difficult by yourself (although I wouldn't try with this knee ![]() Cheers Mark.

![]() Your theory is right! Also the higher the gear the easier it is to bump but the slower the engine speed is so harder to start. 3rd or 4th seems ok though I've never bumped a twin before which would be interesting. |

Find hill. Get on. Paddle down hill, then feet up on pegs. Into second gear. Stand on pegs. Simultaneously jump down on seat and dump clutch.
