Default It's amazing what you pick up on a ride...

Particularly in yer tyres! I found this after a ride a couple of weeks ago, and looked at it last week, when I was cleaning the back brake. It crumbled when coming out, it looked like coal. Worried me, so I had my local bike shop look at it. They ummed and aahed, picked at it, the hole is 5-6mm deep. They said they wouldn't mushroom-patch a front tyre, is up to me whether to chance it or get a new tyre! There's only 1000 miles on them and I'm not rolling in cash ATM, so I am just hoping it hasn't damaged the carcass, I am watching a tyre on evilbay, just need to see if I can stretch to another £70.

Any opinions? The more information I can get the better, it all helps! Or photos of tyre junk of your own!

just run on it and see if it gets any worse, if it blows transfer all weight over the other wheel and dont the break on the blown tyre and hope you dont fly off.

ATM that's what I'm doing. Only issue is it's the front, I don't rate my chances of getting away with a blow-out that highly, which is why I'm rather worried. The chances of it being terminal damage appear to me to be slight, but it's that little chance that is the issue. If it were the back I wouldn't be so concerned.

If it doesn't leak then don't worry about it. I've also never heard of a tyre fitter not doing fronts, I've bought plenty of my old bikes with mushroom plugs in the front tyres and just run them til they were worn out. My old housemate's Bandit 1200 had two in the front when he bought it and he did the same.

I'll ask a fitter, rather than a bike garage! It's not inconceivable they are trying to bilk me for a new tyre, he did look a bit shocked when I said "mushroom patch". I probably came over a bit noobish!
