Don't you just hate people who hog the outside or middle lanes of motorways?
I travel the M4 at 6.30am most mornings (by car) and reverse the route around 5.00pm. In the morning the road is pretty clear but even with nothing - I mean absolutely nothing around them, some git is sat in the middle lane, why? On so many occasions when its busier the outside lane is full of cars overtaking the dozy twonker sat unnecessarily in the middle lane. last night I undertook two cars simultaneously and I was only doing 65mph! If I had tried to overtake them I would have had to push into the outside lane cos it was busy out there. I flashed them before I undertook and waited, flashed again and so. Even after passing them and other cars that had overtaken them and then whipped back to the nearside lane (as if the make a point) the daft dozy beggers still sat there. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was called out at 8.30pm Chrimbo Eve. Sod all on the road apart from the obligatory one dozy dorothy in the middle lane - WHY! Sorry chumps - but I feel better for saying all that! ![]() You hear so many people complain about this; on the TV, Radio etc. Everyone I talk too has the same gripe - so who are these lane hoggers. have they never heard the complaints, never read articles? Who are they? And here's another thing why do women in 4x4's sit in the outside lane with nothing to overetake? And they aren't always blonde either! ![]() 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 ![]() ![]() ![]() Christmas spirit well and truly lost but ever hopeful for a better 2007!! ![]() |

Sad to say but many people do not have a high level of awareness, they simply don't understand the system and cling to old myths like 'I'm doing 70 so shouldn't be in the slow lane' and similar.
I've been guilty of using poor perception on the bike too, coming up behind a car in the middle lane and thinking why doesn't he move over into the gap?? Then looking that I'm doing 110 and he's prob tonging along at 90 and staying in the middle lane cos that's pretty fast in a car and he'll soon be passing his own traffic. Then there's just knobs who think they pay their tax and are doing 70 so everyone else is in the wrong and they can do what they like. |

drive approx 25k miles per year, probably about 20ish on the motorways up and down the UK.
Dont know what you guys think but I have got to admit, the standard of driving is absolutely deplorable with a fair percentage of drivers. Not perfect myself by any means but again,some of the driving is shocking. Had a guy the other night blasting his horn after accelerating harshly to try and close a gap to stop me getting in lane ! He was approx 4 car lengths behind and the road markings are fairly clear with the right pointing curvey arrow on the road suggesting the traffic should merge. As soon as I try to merge, the ****witt swings into action ![]() A few choice words later, he ****ed off, probably to annoy some other driver with his ignorance. To get back on track, yep, the middle lane tubes are really annoying. The Police were supposed to be clamping down on this but since there are hardly any traffif cops left, doubt if much was done about it |

I do Somerset to London twice a week in a transit with a trailer. I stick to the inside lane unless an overtake is needed. Sometimes this is not possible because some arese is sat in the middle lane oblivious to whats going on around him/her, thus boxing me in. I the lose all revs and lose speed

I drive about 30,000 miles a year and standards are indeed dropping.
Classic was the other day on the m6 toll. I was making progress on a near empty motorway ![]() Bloody annoying I know. I have even heard drivers referring to the left hand lane as "The Trucks Lane" . What happened to those public information films on TV they used to have telling drivers that the outside lanes were for overtaking only?. I think the problem may well be those who hog the middle lane tend to be nervous motorway drivers and don't want to change lane in order to overtake and don't realise the obstruction they are causing. Worst are the outside lane hoggers. The 70mph middle laner who feels that they need to move further over because of a stream of trucks etc limited to 56. They sit there for miles at 70 clear in front and 5 miles of stacked traffic behind. About time the limit became at least 90 and undertaking permitted.

I'm sure a lot of it is down to awareness and the inability to think for others.
Many drivers just are not aware of what is going on around them... How many times have you come up behind a guy in lane 3, and hasn't pulled over, because he just never looks in his mirrors ? Since I've had the new car my Xenon headlamps work wonders for people like this ![]() It's also quite clear that most drivers don't think of others. If I have a car coming up behind me at pace, I indicate left and move over as soon as I can. I'd rather he be out of my way than be agitated sitting behind me. There is a game on the M25 called "leave the space", because anytime you leave anywhere near a safe distance between you and the car in front, somebody jumps in from the left and takes up your safety zone ![]() Standards are very poor, but even worse in many countries ! Mind you, motorway driving in Germany is actually a pleasure ![]() . |

How about a silver (fog colour) 4X4 in the outside lane on the A2 doing about 45 in the fog with no lights.
He was nearly rear ended by a BMW/Audi doing 90+ also without lights. Both prats & both nearly dead. I don't even think the 4X4 driver was aware of the car locked up screeching from 90 to 40 inches from his rear. I eventually undertook the 4X4 and sounded my horn on passing and was given a confused sort of why are you beeping me look!!!!! But then again the standard driving test does not include motorway driving. |

People are stupid, there's no way of making them understand unless they get hurt. Even then they always protest it's not their fault. I blame the parents.

Bottomline is that it's life. In the UK there are so many bread heads about that belive that the three lanes are 1= Trucks 2=everyone else 3=rich people in fast cars and chavs in slow ones. You can explain to them all you like and they will not change there view. These are the same err (U rated site right) ... "ice holes" that sit at the front of a traffic jam on fast country A roads doing 47 MPH in a 60 limit. These same cheeses that ALWAYS have to reach a complete halt at roundabouts even if the joining roads are clear all the way to the coast (all of em).
I won't even get started on the caravan crew who travel in groups of three thats against the advice of the caravan club or the idiots that pull out to overtake the vehicle in front, shoot past it than match the speed of the thing they've just overtaken and pull in just at the last safe point (stops anyone else getting past) Oh and then theres.... sorry I'm drifiting off topic.... ![]() ![]() The other day I was doing 50 on the M4 and people were still overtaking me ![]() Good job I'm a placid rider and don't get wound up easily. ![]() |
