Default Moron sold a bike after I'd agreed to buy the wheels

I'd been in touch with a fella about some wheels he had going for a Transalp. I eventually got to see him and the wheels at the weekend and agreed to buy them. £160 for the wheels and tyres however he was happy to let the wheels go on their own.

Monday I mailed him after looking at my tyres and reading reviews of the tyres on his and mailed him to say I didn't need the tyres but would give him £100 for just the wheels and that I'd get them off.

Today after work he replied to say he'd sold the whole bike to someone else! What an ****hole eh?! What makes it worse is that after agreeing a price for the wheels I asked how much he paid the insurance company for the written off bike and he said they cocked up and gave it to him for nothing!

What should I reply to him that will make him feel really guilty or how can I terrorise him a bit? Maybe via e-mail?

Unless you put a deposit down, which i assume from your post you did not, then tbh i dont think the guy has done anything wrong.

When you sell anything, especially bikes/cars(parts) you get so many time wasters, that the first person to physically come up with the cash, gets the goods.

I would of done exactly the same as the bloke.....sorry.

My insurance company gave me my SV for free after it was written off...if the assesor tells them its toast, then sometimes they are not interested, even if it still has some value. I fail to see what bearing that has on you?

He didn't have the wheels off yet and didn't ask for one as we'd agreed when I was going to collect them! I am usually the first to give a deposit.

I was angry. I've spent literally months trying to find at least a good rear wheel. Gonna try and build one I think. Ones on ebay go for way over the mark because there aren't a lot about.

Its always a pain to miss out on something, especially if you've been searching for a while, but until money changes hands, there's the risk you'll miss out.

In a better world, trust alone would suffice.

I had a similar thing the other week buying a van. A couple of fridays ago I did a 160mile round trip to look at a van that was listed on flebay. I kindly asked the guy if he would consider ending it early if I offered the right price. He said no and to be honest that is fair. The van was ending saturday evening and I came home from work on Saturday morning and the van was gone! The w*****r had ended the van early and sold it to someone! So annoying. However every cloud has a siver lining and I found an even better van, it was newer better nick and ended up paying less than what I was gonna offer the guy for the first van. I understand if people wont end things early on ebay as it is an auction site, however stick to your guns if you say you wont end it!

Agreed. With extreme predjudice. You had an agreement and that's all a gentleman should require, so it's entirely reasonable that you go round and criticise his haircut or curtains or.. something.

Alternatively, you might consider having a better quality rim laced on to your existing hub, Honda wired rims are notoriously rotty, many 'Alps succumb to this very problem. Try Hagons or similar.

I was going to try and make a wheel myself. I really need to keep the costs down on this one an reckon if I fail I can always send it iff to be done. Apparently there's a fella near me that can do one for cash. Not sure the spokes are good enough though. Think spokes and a stainless rim are about 80 or 90 quid from wheel central.

You're right Mr Squid! I thought it was very underhand. Looking now it might be the case that he's only posted a few times on the forum so a bad egg it seems.

Maybe I'll him or or him or worse than all of those !!!
