I saw this letter posted on the website of my local paper back in South Africa this morning...

I wonder how correct/true his facts are?

why is it that religious bigotry seems very often to go hand in hand with racism?

as for his facts, nigeria has a relatively high birth rate, but it's infant mortality rate is 95 (per 1000 births) compared to 5 in the UK and less than 3 in sweden, therefore to maintain the same population change (increase or decrease) they must have 20-30x the number of births...

I dont think the author intended to make any religious remarks...I think it was just a matter of speech to make a point.

This doesn't sound good " *******isation", and I think I lead a "Selfish, materialistic and ungodly lifestyle", so what should I do??

... seriously, bear with me here.

There are very few species on the planet that have such a diversity of indentifiable traits that can be shared or exclusively maintained through breeding.

Looking at 'Man' purely as an animal, cross breeding will carry identifiable traits from both parental 'strains' to give any progeny a mixed appearance, both visually and 'medically' (i.e. traceable diseases/probabilities/suseptabilities etc). yet pure breeding will maintain the traits identifiable to a specific 'breed'.
Compare that to a dog...

... Cross a Spaniel with a Poodle and, apart from getting a Spoodle, you get a Spaniel with a Poodle's curly coat that is closer to hair than fur and less likely to set off allergies.
Breed a Spaniel with a Spaniel and you get a Spaniel - Poopdle with a Poodle you get a Poodle etc.

What makes both Man and Dog even more alike in this respect is that cross breed can then interbreed.

Cross a horse with a donky you get a mule (with identifiable characters of both parents) but it is naturally sterile. Both are Equids and can successfully breed, but their progeny cant.
Felines - Tiger bred with a Lion = a Liger. Characteristics of both parents, but again, naturally sterile.

Whether it is of an advantage or detrimental to humanity as a species overall, who knows. But unless some measure of 'pure breeding' is maintained by someone, somewhere, it is highly likely that in the far flung future (if the planet survives that long ) that there will be no identifiable characteristics for the current various 'breeds' of Man. Some hereditary may be traceable at a genetic level, but visually there will be a far more uniform appearance...

... at the very least it would knock racism on its head as there will be no individual races to speak of...

... we'll just have to dislike people simply for the country of their birth or religion rather than colour as well.


Not too sure where I'm going with this rambling, other than to say I find the subject somewhat fascinating from an 'animal study' point of view...

Didn't somebody once try for a pure caucasian of Nordic type race before and animals/birds/fish etc. in the wild normally stay with their own breed so does that put humans on a higher or lower plain

I wonder if these "purity of the race" guys would object to gene therapy? Or if they'd be angry about Polynesians breeding with Africans? Probably not.

Must admit to having bred with the an English lady if that counts
